He is the first Kannada actor to bag a trophy at these awards
The Bollywood sojourns of actor-director Sudeep have finally borne fruit. He will be the first Kannada film star to receive the prestigious International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) award. IIFA is a celebration of Indian cinema, aimed at increasing the influence of Indian movies in foreign countries. This year, the IIFA bandwagon lands in Toronto, Canada, where a three-day celebration will start on June 23. Sudeep has confirmed that he has been invited but is still uncertain regarding the nature of the award. Sudeep’s award may very well give an edge to the Kannada industry, which is still lagging behind its neighbours Kollywood and Tollywood in terms of international releases and profits. The only other Sandalwood technician to have received an IIFA award is VK Murthy, who had received it for his invaluable contributions to the art of cinematography.
