Who knew a traditional outfit often worn by South Indian girls would become all the rage in the urban fashion arena! This style used to be quite a hit on the runways and amongst B-town celebs at one point of time, a few years ago. Recently Priyanka Chopra and Vidya Balan were seen resurfacing this trend and, quite surprisingly, in its kosher and unadulterated state

Keeping the simplicity intact – which happens to be the main element of this ensemble – Priyanka dons a subtle golden yellow outfit in Agneepath. She teams it with a small bindi and we think Ms Chopra couldn’t look more elegant than this. Vidya Balan, on the other hand, was spotted promoting The Dirty Picture wearing her version of the ethnic style. She chose to splash a whole lot of bright colours on it and added li’l funkiness by teaming it up with a shocking pink bindi. Diagonally draping a red odhni over a golden choli, what we like is that Ms Balan ditches jazzy designer couture for this unconventional ethnic style – which, by the way, is very likely a la Sabyasachi Mukherjee, VB’s fave designer. A reminder of the fact that we have some amazing styles to look up to in our very own country; opting for these is easier than we could imagine. All we have to do is just rummage through Mommy’s closet and get ourselves acquainted with some old-school sartorial styles and we will be all set walk a different path – when it comes to fashion, of course. And about this chic south Indian style – just as much we love those famous gorgeous Kasavu saris, these half saris aren’t half bad either. It’s time to shop wethinks!
