Imran Khan, Anushka Sharma, Pankaj Kapur in Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola

Vishal Bhardwaj has managed a casting coup of sorts by getting Imran Khan to act opposite Anushka Sharma in his dream project Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola. Yes, the two will come together for the first time in the 7 Khoon Maaf director’s dream project. A birdie told us that Pankaj Kapur, who had recently turned director with Mausam, is playing the part of Bijli’s father Mandola. MKBKM is the first time Vishal is attempting a comedy. There has been much buzz about Imran playing a villager for the first time, but you never know, under Vishal’s keen eye, Imran might just manage to surprise us. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see these three actors come together, won’t it?

Neil Nitin Mukesh: I had four fractures while shooting the stunts for ‘Players’

Bruises and fractures notwithstanding, Neil Nitin Mukesh says he enjoyed doing daredevil stunts in his upcoming film Players. “I broke a finger… I had fractures at least four times during the making of the film. But all is fine now. Even on a regular day if a person falls on the road, he gets hurt. Here we were doing stunts,” said Neil while promoting Players. Click here to read more

Will Imran Khan make a convincing villager?

We have seen the young Khan play a city slicker in almost all his films so we are wondering if he will be able to pull off the ‘gaon wala’ act in Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola

Vishal Bhardwaj’s movies are usually set in a rustic premise, a world which you must have heard about, but rarely seen. His next film Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, is one such outing. It was first offered to Ajay Devgn who had played the title role in Omkara. For some reason, Devgn had to let Vishal’s film go, which has now landed in the lap of Imran Khan who has so far only played the urban dude. Celebrate the chartbusting magic of Gulzar’s evocative lyrics

At a recent event, when asked if he was succumbing to the culture of writing populist songs, poet-lyricist Gulzar insisted that though his songs may be popular, the quality of his poetry remains top-notch

He quoted the example of the popular ‘Kallu maama’ from Ramgopal Varma’s Satya, saying that if someone bothered to dig deeper, the lyrics delve into the psyche of the gangster and, if and when he sings, it would be odd if he spouted pure Urdu instead of colloquial street-speak. This is what fans love best about Gulzar – the ease with which he adapts to the subject and comes up with lyrics that transcend words to become poetry and yet manage to be simple, with delightful metaphors. Many in the film industry said that it was hara-kiri for any mainstream actor to become part of an ensemble cast, as there is a strong chance that he may not be able to find solo roles after that.
