Ali Zafar: Proud that a woman got Pakistan’s first Oscar
The London Paris New York artiste thinks it’s a great achievement
Pakistani singer-actor Ali Zafar is happy that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a woman, picked up the first Oscar for his country. He describes it as a great feat for all his countrymen. “We are very proud of the fact that a woman has got the first Oscar for Pakistan. Sharmeen got the first Oscar and I have personally had the pleasure of meeting her. What a great achievement for all of us,” the 31-year-old said at the Lavasa Women’s Drive awards. Sharmeen, a Pakistani journalist and documentary filmmaker, won the Oscar for her documentary film Saving Face, which uncovers the story of hundreds of people, mostly women who become acid attack victims in her country. Reliance DreamWorks’ film The Help gets golden statuette for best supporting actor
Reliance Group chairman Anil Ambani walked the red carpet at the 84th Academy Awards at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles Sunday, where three films produced by DreamWorks Studios, his co-venture with Steven Speilberg, were nominated for 11 Oscars. Among the 11 nominations, Octavia Spencer fetched the Oscar for best supporting actress for her performance in The Help. Bollywood wrote about the 84th Academy Awards winners on social networking site Twitter
Looks like most people in Bollywood were asleep during the live telecast of the 84th Academy Awards. Some enthusiastic ones were wide awake though, and tweeted as the award ceremony was being aired. Amitabh Bachchan did not tweet but wrote about the winning film The Artist on his blog before the Oscars. He said, “I watched a lovely film ‘The Artist’ via the UFO set up in the house and it was a delight to see a black and white, silent movie in February of 2012!! In an age when color and music and speech and sound play such an important role in cinema today, it was most innovative on the part of the makers to present something like this. I believe it is up for the Oscars, which are out tomorrow on Sunday.” The others who tweeted included Neil Nitin Mukesh, Celina Jaitly, Shreya Ghoshal and Rajat Kapoor. Amitabh Bachchan, who is recuperating at home after abdominal surgeries, is enjoying a “no time-table” life. Apart from doing other things, he watched Oscar-winning film The Artist and said it was a “delight” to view the silent black and white French movie. “Being by myself and almost in solitary confinement, is getting contagious. I am beginning to rather like this state. Nowhere to go, nothing obligatory to perform, random timings and the liberty to do what I desire. I eat whenever, sleep whenever, watch a movie whenever and happy doing so,” Big B posted on his blog.
