‘The Artist’ is a delight to watch: Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan, who is recuperating at home after abdominal surgeries, is enjoying a “no time-table” life. Apart from doing other things, he watched Oscar-winning film The Artist and said it was a “delight” to view the silent black and white French movie. “Being by myself and almost in solitary confinement, is getting contagious. I am beginning to rather like this state. Nowhere to go, nothing obligatory to perform, random timings and the liberty to do what I desire. I eat whenever, sleep whenever, watch a movie whenever and happy doing so,” Big B posted on his blog.
He added: “I watched a lovely film ‘The Artist’ via the UFO set up in the house and it was a delight to see a black and white, silent movie in February of 2012!! In an age when color and music and speech and sound play such an important role in cinema today, it was most innovative on the part of the makers to present something like this. I believe it is up for the Oscars, which are out tomorrow on Sunday.”Click here to read more

India out of Oscar race – again

National Award-winning Adaminte Makan Abu did not get nominated at the Oscars’ next round. Meanwhile, Cineswami also gives his take on UTV Motion Pictures’ 2012 slate of films

Nine films will advance to the next round of voting in the Foreign Language Film category for the 84th Academy Awards or Oscars to you and I. Sixty-three films had originally qualified in the category, including India’s entry Adaminte Makan Abu, the Malayalam film directed by Salim Ahmed. Sadly, not having the nous of an Aamir Khan, Ahmed was unable to parlay the selection into a place in the shortlist, let alone a nomination in the final five. Thus, Lagaan, Salaam Bombay and Mother India remain the only Indian films to receive Oscar nominations. Click here to read more

Aamir Khan’s ‘Dhobi Ghat’ nominated for BAFTA

Brand new daddy, Aamir Khan has one more reason to celebrate now. After Dhobi Ghat released, Aamir confessed that he missed a chance to romance wifey Kiran Rao in the movie because she didn’t want to act in it. “She is a better actor than me. I hope we get to see her on Indian screen in a film or a theatre or play. I have told her so many times she is very talented and she must act,” the actor had said at the DVD launch of Dhobi Ghat. But looks like the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) didn’t really mind. The movie made it to BAFTA Awards’ Longlist in Film Not in English Language category. After competing with 285 other movies DG made it to the list of 15 movies that were shortlisted. Aamir is not unfamiliar to his movies making it to nomination lists. Aamir’s Lagaan became the third Hindi-language film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2002, Taare Zameen Par and Peepli:Live became India’s official entry to the Academy Awards. And now Dhobi Ghat. But this time, we do hope that the movie goes a step further and wins the award. Fingers crossed.
