Sanjay Dutt gets reprieve in 2009 election case

Sanjay Dutt can heave a sigh of relief. The Allahabad High Court has stayed the criminal proceedings against him pertaining to a complaint made in 2009. It had been alleged that Sanjay had made inflammatory speeches while campaigning for the Samajwadi Party during the General Elections. An FIR had been filed against him. Sanjay’s counsel countered the allegations and said that the case was politically motivated by the then ruling party Bahujan Samaj Party, who were staunch rivals of SP. The counsel also stated that the police officers had not followed due procedure while filing the case. After weighing all the arguments, Justice Bala Krishna Narayana ruled that the criminal proceedings be stayed.
