Javed Jaffrey: It is wrong to equate Indian cinema with Bollywood

Javed Jaffrey: It is wrong to equate Indian cinema with Bollywood
You have done a variety of films. Is there a particular genre that you feel more challenging than others? I don’t feel many things I do are challenging. I am not talking about physical challenges here. Doing a film like Boom was challenging. It was a quirky role and I feel doing a completely mad character like that was extremely challenging. The way I walked, I talked, my posture, my accent, my tone in that film, everything was so unusual for me and that was a big challenge. I did 8 by 10 Tasveer with Nagesh Kukunoor. The film tanked at the box office, but I enjoyed doing it. I loved doing Dhamaal too. It was loud and over-the-top, but I enjoyed working in that film. Click here to read more

Where has the Sanjay Dutt from ‘Vaastav’ gone?

Yogen Shah

Wonder why the actor has moved away from intense roles to focus on inanely comic ones

I just saw the promo of Sanjay Dutt’s latest film Chatur Singh Two Star and it got me thinking. In the last few years, Sanju baba has moved from the intense and angry avatar to the goofy one – like in Dhamaal, All The Best, No Problem and Double Dhamaal. His other option? Don some bad makeup, bash up the bad guys and get drenched in badly fake blood. It seems that’s why he’s agreed to wear this lush and strangely blonde wig and do a Peter Sellers in his next, Chatur Singh Two Star. Click here to read more

‘Double Dhamaal’ Review: Look at the bright side

The film revives the hilarious knockabout farces harking back to the glory days of silent cinema

Hence, there is no point in criticising these films. Instead, it would bode us well to appreciate the few crumbs of entertainment that the film bestows us. As they say, when ravishment is inevitable, lie back and enjoy it. Click here to read more
