Fardeen Khan gets relief in the drug case
After being held guilty for attempting to buy cocaine in 2001, Fardeen Khan finally gets immunity as the charges of possessing drugs have been dropped

But the actor knows the fight is not over yet, as the trial is yet to begin
Bollywood actor Fardeen Khan and his family are deeply gratified by the court’s decision to try him for only attempting to buy cocaine, dropping the graver charge of possessing over two grams of the drug that carried a maximum punishment of 10 years in jail. Sounding cautiously jubilant, Fardeen said: “I had the utmost confidence in our legal system and the verdict of the honourable court proves my faith right. My family and I have been through a lot in recent times. This reprieve in my case comes after 10 years of tension.” The court verdict Tuesday came as a welcome relief. The offence with which he has been charged now carries a maximum punishment of six months’ imprisonment or a fine up to Rs 10,000 or both. Back in 2001 actor Fardeen Khan was allegedly caught with 9 gm of cocaine. In a statement given to the cops, the actor had said he was negotiating to buy one gram of cocaine. After more than a decade, he heaves a sigh of relief as the Mumbai court has given out the final verdict. While the No Entry actor has been charged for possessing drugs, it is only for one gram of cocaine. And on November 2 his punishment – six months jail or Rs 10,000 fine – will be decided. According to Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the maximum punishment for possession of less than 2 gm banned drugs is five years of imprisonment whereas the maximum punishment for possessing more than 2 gm of banned drugs is 10-year imprisonment.
