Even as Karan Johar’s remake of Agneepath is still running in theatres, the filmmaker has been flooded with inquiries for a south Indian remake. It’s an interesting trend, considering that after the success of Hindi remakes like Ghajini, Wanted, Dabangg, Ready and Singham, every major actor / producer in B-town got busy buying southern film rights. ‘Agneepath’ earns USD3.2 mn at overseas box office

Producer Karan Johar is “ecstatic” with the global collections

After a record opening in the domestic market, filmmaker Karan Johar’s Agneepath has tasted success in the overseas market by earning USD3.2 million (Rs 160 million) since it opened January 26. Eros International released the Hrithik Roshan-starrer on 337 screens worldwide. The film, directed by debutant Karan Malhotra, grossed 347,000 pounds in Britain in the first four days. In the US, the four-day collections were USD1.3 million and in the UAE, Agneepath collected more than $800,000. Click here to read more

Hrithik Roshan’s understated yet powerful performance and Rishi Kapoor’s strong portrayal of the baddie shine through in this otherwise lacklustre remake

There are great expectations from Agneepath for three main reasons: it is a remake of an Amitabh Bachchan flick, it’s produced by Karan Johar and has a huge starcast. But I wonder why? In any case the original Agneepath had tanked at the box office at first, only to have been recognised as a cult classic later. In a way, this one’s not just a remake.
