‘Rascals’ collects Rs 8.63 crore on opening day
Sanjay Dutt Productions and Rupali Aum Entertainment’s Dussehra bonanza Rascals has hit the right cord with the audiences. The comic flick, starring Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Kangana Ranaut, Lisa Haydon and Arjun Rampal, directed by David Dhawan has has garnered a collection of Rs 8.63 crore on the first day itself, making it the fourth highest for 2011, after Ready, Ajay Devgn’s own Singham and Bodyguard. This was despite a limited release and low ticket prices. If the tickets had been priced at regular rates, the movie could have even crossed the Rs 11 crore mark.

The film begins with an animation sequence where both the main characters – the rascals – - played by Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn are explained. Rascals is about two conmen Chetan Chauhan (Dutt) and Bhagat Bhosle (Devgn). They begin by conning each other and then fall in love with the same girl who cons them in return. That’s exactly what the film is about but it goes on and on till you doze off or decide to walk out in protest.
