Mumbai Film Festival director Srinivasan Narayanan said cancelling the fest’s ongoing 14th edition will be the greatest disrespect to late filmmaker Yash Chopra, but they will pay him tribute by a one-minute silence before all screenings on Monday

“The best way to pay tribute to Yashji is to screen more number of films because he lived to make films and show them. Cancelling the movies will be the greatest disrespect we can show to him,” Narayanan said. Click here to read more

With focus on Italian, French and Afghanistan cinema and restored classics, this year’s MFF will showcase 200 films from 65 countries

The 14th Mumbai Film Festival (MFF) that will be held from October 18-25, 2012, has an interesting line-up of films. Taking a cue from the response received to The Artist last year (before it won the Oscar), there is a tribute to silent films at this year’s MFF. But all the silent movies will be Indian as part of the Celebration of 100 years of Indian cinema. This year, the MFF’s focus is on Italian cinema and French films. The decision makers behind the 14th Mumbai Film Festival have decided to use the platform to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema. And they are going to do it by screening nine silent films! Shyam Benegal, chairman, Mumbai Academy of Moving Images (MAMI), which organises the festival, confirmed this when he said, “The main thing is going to be the nine restored silent films that will be shown the way it used to be shown in the silent days of Indian cinema.
