Why is Akshaye Khanna upset with Farhan Akhtar?

What’s gnawing Akshaye is how Farhan can not repeat him in any of his movies, considering they delivered a cult blockbuster like Dil Chahta Hai together, but the actor fails to notice that the filmmaker hasn’t repeated anyone from the DCH team except for Preity Zinta, who worked with him in Lakshya

The number of flop films on Akshaye Khanna’s resume is probably taking a toll on the actor’s mind. Aakrosh, No Problem, Tees Maar Khan – the actor has been kayoing us with back-to-back duds. None of the DCH stars have expressed their anger over not being re-cast by director Farhan Akhtar; after all, they all have been pretty loaded with offers which in turn places them in the actors-who-are-secure-enough category. The actor is not very fascinated with the idea of being labelled as an item girl, but then what makes her opt for mindless dance numbers, which wethink are worse than item performances

She played the ultimate blonde in Rascals and grooved on some tacky songs that had abysmal lyrics. She didn’t mind putting on those ungraceful dancing shoes in Double Dhamaal either. Wonder why the actor has moved away from intense roles to focus on inanely comic ones

I just saw the promo of Sanjay Dutt’s latest film Chatur Singh Two Star and it got me thinking. In the last few years, Sanju baba has moved from the intense and angry avatar to the goofy one – like in Dhamaal, All The Best, No Problem and Double Dhamaal. His other option? Don some bad makeup, bash up the bad guys and get drenched in badly fake blood. It seems that’s why he’s agreed to wear this lush and strangely blonde wig and do a Peter Sellers in his next, Chatur Singh Two Star. Click here to read more

Critical reclaim

True, some films we critics dislike go on to become box office smashes. But our job is to be concerned with the quality of a film, not the collections

When Salman Khan’s new film Ready released last week, one of the first reviews to run was written by Taran Adarsh on the extremely popular website bollywoodhungama.com. It said that Ready was ‘NOT for the rigid detractors or counterfeit scholars of Hindi cinema who masquerade as messiahs of meaningful cinema’. I guess that would be me. Click here to read more
