Decoding RA.One: Art, commerce and technology with a heady mix of Shahrukh Khan’s trademark antics

Seems that the King Khan has mastered the much elusive ‘formula’ for a superhit film with his superhero film, because it has something for everyone, which will ensure that nobody really hates it

In a star crazy nation, there is no point of reviewing or critically analysing a film that stars any of the three Khans: Shahrukh, Salman or Aamir. With RA.One, SRK proves that he has found the trick to not only getting the audience excited about watching his film, but also giving them something they like, so that they go home with smiles pasted on their faces and he, in turn, grins broadly all the way to the bank. Shahrukh Khan talks to his Bangalore fans in Kannada

Shahrukh Khan can be called as the ‘marketing King Khan’ nowadays, as he is busy with the promotion of his upcoming RA.One and that too with very unusual and creative ideas of promotion. SRK is currently on a multi-city promotional tour, and he was in Silicon City on Sunday. He proved his tricks to be the best by greeting his fans from Bangalore by talking in Kannada with them. SRK started his speech with “Namaskaara”. Further in his speech, he used some Kannada words and phrases like “Bengaluru chennagidhe” (Bangalore is a beautiful city), “Oota aayitha?” (Have you had lunch?) and “Chennagidhdheera?” (How are you, are you okay?). Shahrukh also talked about the cameos by Sanjay Dutt, Priyanka Chopra and Rajinikanth in RA.One. SRK’s Kannadiga fans were happy to see him talking in their language.

Rajinikanth’s cameo in ‘RA.One’ was planned a year ago

If you think that South superstar Rajinikanth is a last minute addition to RA.One’s long cameo list then you are wrong. In fact, Rajini’s special appearance was planned a year ago when the film’s shoot was still in its initial stages. Director Anubhav Sinha had a sequence with Rajini in mind and the star was quite kicked about shooting it. But unfortunately he fell sick soon after and the director decided to drop the scene all together. Rajini though decided to stick to his promise and shoot for the film once he was back on his feet. But interestingly, Sinha had no plans to use Rajini’s Robot character Chitti in the film. It was Rajini’s daughter Soundarya who suggested that using the actor’s Robot look will add an interesting twist to the scene. Well, now we can’t wait to see these two superheroes in one frame! Can you?

Is Shahrukh Khan overdoing it for ‘RA.One’?

The actor has been promoting his ambitious film in every event and TV show he can manage. Is that a sign of desperation?

Was there an overdose of Shahrukh Khan on television on Saturday night? Add to that the omnipresence of RA.One and G.One and the superstar is everywhere, all the time. SRK was seen on the grand finale episodes of not one, but three reality shows. Fans could choose from his recorded show with buddy Hrithik Roshan and frenemy Farah Khan on Just Dance, or with Dharmendra and Sonali Bendre on India’s Got Talent 3, or the ‘live from Surat’ finale of the much loved Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs. While he was all cute and played mentor to the kids on Li’l Champs, hugging and encouraging them and giving out G.One dolls, in the end his jig to Chammak Challo left hosts Manish Paul and Jai as well as the judges Kailash Kher, Javed Ali and Adnan Sami, exasperated. On Just Dance and India’s Got Talent, he was charming as ever, danced and had fun. But honestly, even for his biggest fans, it was indeed an OD of the Khan man. If you have a sharp memory, you may recall that SRK had done the same thing with the promotions of Om Shanti Om. Click here to read more
