FICCI Frames 2012: Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Rockstar’ rules Excellence Awards

Rockstar and Sony Entertainment Television were the big winners at FICCI Frames Excellence Awards 2012. The function was held at the end of the three day FICCI festival on March 16. Ranbir Kapoor won the Best Actor (Male) award, Imtiaz Ali won Best Director, AR Rahman got the Best Music Director trophy and Mohit Chauhan bagged the Best Singer (Male) award – all for the same film, Rockstar. Vidya Balan walked away with the Best Actor (Female) honours for her work in The Dirty Picture. Best Film went to Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
Sony Entertainment Television won top honours in fiction and non-fiction programming. Ram Kapoor and Saakshi Tanwar bagged the Best Actor trophies for Bade Achche Lagte Hain while Amitabh Bachchan was honored with the Award for Maximum Impact made by a Personality for Kaun Banega Crorepati. Celebrate the chartbusting magic of Gulzar’s evocative lyrics

At a recent event, when asked if he was succumbing to the culture of writing populist songs, poet-lyricist Gulzar insisted that though his songs may be popular, the quality of his poetry remains top-notch

He quoted the example of the popular ‘Kallu maama’ from Ramgopal Varma’s Satya, saying that if someone bothered to dig deeper, the lyrics delve into the psyche of the gangster and, if and when he sings, it would be odd if he spouted pure Urdu instead of colloquial street-speak. This is what fans love best about Gulzar – the ease with which he adapts to the subject and comes up with lyrics that transcend words to become poetry and yet manage to be simple, with delightful metaphors. ‘Dabangg’ earns the highest honour – the National Award!

Chulbul Pandey wins over the National Award jury and walks away with the honour for wholesome entertainment

The most prestigious kudos for films in India – the National Awards – were announced this afternoon. The jury declared the Malayalam movie Adaminte Makan Abu as Best Film and Vetrimaran as Best Director for the Tamil film Aadukalam, while Salman Khan’s Dabangg won the prize for Wholesome Entertainment.
