Shankar Dayal’s directorial Saguni is cliched, but Karthi and Santhanam make it a complete entertainer

It’s taken a year and a half for Karthi to see the release of Saguni. Though the protracted delays may have been irksome, they seemed to have had a positive fallout: expectations about Saguni kept rising all the time and all eyes were on Karthi, whose last film was Siruthai in 2011. Time magazine has included Raj Kapoor’s 1951 classic Awaara among 20 new entries added to its All-Time 100 list of the greatest films made since 1923, the beginning of the prestigious periodical. Rethinking the movie masterpieces, Time critic Richard Corliss describes Raj Kapoor as “the great star-auteur of India’s post-colonial golden age of movies – Cary Grant and Cecil B DeMille in one handsome package”. AR Rahman and Mani Ratnam brainstorm at sea

Ace director Mani Ratnam and Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman have taken things quite literally and have been working on Kadal (out at sea). The director and music composer took a boat and ventured into the sea for a brainstorming session

Rahman, who uploaded a photograph of Mani and himself on a boat on his social networking page, posted that they were busy discussing the songs for or Kadal. “It was a brainstorming session,” Rahman added. Click here to read more

By now everybody knows that Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani is a box office success and unless a strong performance emerges in the coming months Vidya Balan is a shoo in for best actress at next year’s awards. In these days of instant consumption it is heartening to see a film continuing to do well in its second week. In the first week run, Kahaani netted an impressive Rs 24.1 crore in its first week. Ravi Teja is very busy in his upcoming Tamil film Veeraiah. He will be seen romancing the hot Kajal Aggarwal and the hotter Taapsee Pannu in the same film. Veeraiah is actually the dubbed version of Telugu film Veera. The film is expected to hit the screens on June 30, this year. The movie also stars Shaam, Roja, Sridevi Vijayakumar, Nasser, Saran Raj and Pradeep Rawat. Thaman has composed the music that was launched recently.
