The much-awaited Mumbai Film Festival’s 14th edition begins tonight (Thursday , October 18) at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in South Mumbai, with actor Sridevi inaugurating the event by lighting the traditional lamp. Ace cameraperson Rajen Kothari, also head of Cinematography at Subhash Ghai’s Whistling Woods International film school, died in Mumbai on Wednesday (September 26) due to cardiac arrest. He was 60. The acclaimed lensman succumbed to cancer at a Mumbai hospital
Cinematographer Ashok Mehta passed away in Mumbai today. He suffered from cancer and was being treated at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri West. Actor Arjun Rampal who made his Bollywood debut in Mehta’s Moksha in 2001 had paid a visit to the ailing veteran just a few days back.

The decision makers behind the 14th Mumbai Film Festival have decided to use the platform to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema. And they are going to do it by screening nine silent films! Shyam Benegal, chairman, Mumbai Academy of Moving Images (MAMI), which organises the festival, confirmed this when he said, “The main thing is going to be the nine restored silent films that will be shown the way it used to be shown in the silent days of Indian cinema.
