‘The Dirty Picture’ makes Rs 20 crore at domestic box office

Vidya Balan’s no-holds-barred performance in The Dirty Picture has received an overwhelming response and has managed to earn net Rs 20.32 crore at the domestic box office since its release on Friday. Because of the overwhelming response at the box office collections, multiplexes are now adding more shows

“The response is fantabulous. We are doing well in A, B, C centres. It’s holding on, it is not a one day wonder,” Girish Johar, head of acquisition and distribution, Balaji Motion Pictures, told.  “We released the film on 1766 screens, but the response is such that we are adding 30 to 40 screens,” he added.  Directed by Milan Luthria, the film from Ekta Kapoor’s banner also sees Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor helping in recreating the era of 1980s southern film industry and its functioning.  Click here to read more

Vidya Balan makes local tailors’ dream come true

The Dirty Picture is around the corner and Vidya Balan has become the talk of the town. Ekta Kapoor and Milan Luthria are finding novel ways to promote their film. Taking a step forward in marketing, Balaji Motion Pictures have planned a very different approach to connect with the B and C centres for their film. Vidya who has been showcased in cleavage-showing blouses and stylish saris in the promos will give local tailors from select Indian cities an opportunity to stitch a matching blouse for a sari she picks from the local market. As the actor visits Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Lucknow and other cities to promote The Dirty Picture, she will wear a sari from the markets in these cities. The most popular tailor of each city will be given the chance to stitch a matching blouse for the sexy siren. Now tailors from the cities are clamouring to design the clothes for the sizzling actor.
