DELHI BELLY Review: Aiming for culthood!

DELHI BELLY Review: Aiming for culthood!

There is no one called DK Bose in the film, but that doesn’t stop Delhi Belly from being added to our all-time fave list
Before Delhi Belly begins, you see the trailer of Ram Gopal Varma’s next film, Not a Love Story, with a punchline that reads: ‘A story from the heart but not for the fainthearted’. That better describes Delhi Belly! Sitting through all the ‘crap’ that happens onscreen is no joke – with close-ups of male bum cracks, excreta and farting sounds all through, plus swear words and simulated sex scenes.
Chocolate-boy Imran Khan has moved into a different league altogether, thanks to this one. Click here to read more

Finally, the ‘Delhi Belly’ director takes the spotlight

Finally, the ‘Delhi Belly’ director takes the spotlight

Abhinay Deo’s Game may have tanked at the box office, but he has certainly redeemed himself with the cracking film that is Delhi Belly
When Cineswami was offered a first class ticket to fly to London to attend the world premiere of Delhi Belly, which opened the 2nd London Indian Film Festival, it was an offer CS could not refuse. And it was a worthwhile experience indeed. For weeks now India has been inundated with Delhi Belly promotions, all featuring the ubiquitous Aamir Khan and his nephew Imran Khan and indeed the other actors in the film with nary a mention of the man who directed the film – Abhinay Deo. Now, Deo’s Game may have tanked at the box office, but he has certainly redeemed himself with the cracking film that is Delhi Belly. Click here to read more

Delhi Belly Movie Review: Thank God for Aamir Khan!

Delhi Belly Movie Review: Thank God for Aamir Khan!

Delhi Belly is a fast, pacy ride. This isn’t a film for the squeamish or the easily offended as it contains (covered) erections, (under the covers) cunnilingus and a galaxy of foul language that is used most inventively
A massive hat tip to Aamir Khan (the producer, not the actor) for having the gumption to produce such diverse fare and make it succeed at the box office, for, back in 2001, a four-hour film about cricket (Lagaan) was a huge financial risk. Similarly, films about dyslexia (Taare Zameen Par), farmer suicides (Peepli Live) and an artsy Mumbai diary (Dhobi Ghat) were all risks, but had punters queuing up at the turnstiles. Marvellously written by Akshat Verma, Delhi Belly is a racy caper laced with colourful and rude language and something that a more conventional producer wouldn’t have dared to touch.
