High court refuses to stay ‘Shanghai’ release for ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ song
The Delhi High Court Wednesday (June 6) dismissed a plea seeking stay of the June 8 release of Bollywood film Shanghai, saying that there was nothing insulting in its song Bharat mata ki jai. A division bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rajiv Shakdher said: “We do not find anything objectionable in the said song. In a democracy, every person has a right to voice his views and opinions…the same right to speech and expression cannot be curtailed except under some circumstances.”
A petition had been filed on June 4 in the Delhi High Court for an interim stay on the June 8 release of upcoming Bollywood film Shanghai until its controversial song Bharat mata ki jai was deleted.Click here to read more
Abhay Deol miffed as Emraan Hashmi gets limelight in ‘Shanghai’
Dibakar Banerjee’s upcoming directorial, Shanghai, starring Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi in pivotal roles is planning to have a mob song featuring Emraan along with about 500 professional street dancers. According to sources, Abhay is not thrilled about the new development, as he believes that the number would become popular and his co-star would get all the limelight. The song was initially planned to be shot in Latur and Baramati but the idea was dropped. But then ooking at the people that poured in to see Emraan, the producers decided to feature him in the song. Dibakar cleared the air stating that there is no rivalry between the two lead actors. And that the decision to cast Emraan in the song was not an impromptu one. The song in discussion is called Bharat mata ki jai aka Anthem of destruction, as it showcases a critical view of modern-day Indian politics.
