    Dev Anand (1923-2011): A legend moves on

    The news of Dev Anand’s death has shocked his legion of fans in and out of the Bollywood film industry
    Dev Anand was rightly called the evergreen hero, and not just because of his long tenure as leading man. While he played the quintessential hero onscreen with his unique style and mannerisms, offscreen too he had an approach to life that was highly inspirational. It has often been said that he actually lived the way one of his songs advocated – har fikr ko dhue mein udaata chala gaya (I moved on, letting my worries go up in smoke). He had many classics to his name – Guide, CID, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Gambler, Hum Dono – and yet never stopped making films. He wanted to die with his boots on, and that’s what he did.
