    BBC Entertainment and CBeebies to shut shop in India

    The British Broadcasting Corporation announced that it will close down two entertainment channels in India owing to business reasons as also the delay in digitisation
    In a statement on its India website, BBC Worldwide confirmed on November 1 that two of its channels – BBC Entertainment and CBeebies – will be available only till the end of November 2012 for its viewers.     Why is cable TV digitisation being made compulsory?

    As the October 31 deadline for digitisation of cable television connections in the four metros nears, we wonder if TV sets will go blank on November 1 if are not ‘digitised’
    Political party Shiv Sena Monday demanded an extension of the deadline from October 31 to January 2013 for digitisation of cable TV networks in the four metros of Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, as acquiring set-top boxes is causing a burden on the poor in the festival season. Uddhav Thackeray, the party Executive President said that in Mumbai around one-third of the households were yet to buy set-top boxes (STBs) which cost around Rs 1,000-1,200 per piece.
