    Amitabh Bachchan gives Rs 1 lakh to Vidarbha widow

    Amitabh Bachchan was moved by the courage and story of a woman who appeared on his show, Kaun Banega Crorepati 5. Aparna is a widow at 25 and a mother of two girls aged seven and three. As a contestant, she won Rs 6 lakh on the show. When asked what she would do with the winning amount, Aparna said that she’d first clear off her husband’s debt of Rs 60,000 on their farm and spend the rest of the money on her children’s education. Distressed by the dilemma of farm widows in the Vidarbha region of central Maharashtra, Amitabh personally sent Aparna a cheque for Rs 1 lakh and a letter extending his support to her children’s education.
