Filmmaker Gauri Shinde received the Laadli award for the Best Mainline Hindi Film for her directorial debut English Vinglish, while Oscar-winning costume designer Bhanu Athaiya got honoured for lifetime achievement.

The maiden episode of Aamir Khan’s first ever TV show, Satyamev Jayate that aired on Star Plus on Sunday, May 6, fetched rave reviews on social networking site Twitter, occupying the “top five trends” slot. Even before Aamir could wrap up the episode, which focussed on female foeticide, 2,254 tweets were notched up. From Bollywood celebs to journalists to the person on the street, and activists like Kiran Bedi, all gave the show the thumbs up. Satyamev Jayate was also trending on Facebook. Aamir Khan to meet Rajasthan Chief Minister on Wednesday
Aamir Khan plans to get in touch with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday, May 9 and discuss the issue of female foeticide at length. The actor has already raised this problem on the first episode of his show Satyamev Jayate and expressed his concern over it. Khan claims that his objective is to reduce the rampant practice of female infanticide across the country. On the show, he had taken a pledge to write to Gehlot and request him to take measures to clear pending court cases of doctors charged in the sex determination racket. ‘Satyamev Jayate’ special screening held in Maharashtra, Gujarat & Uttar Pradesh
The first episode of Aamir Khan’s debut TV show Satyamev Jayate was screened on Sunday, May 6, in some villages in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh where the villagers do not have access to television. “This is an important and relevant show for all of India and Star India is going all out to make sure that this show reaches out to all Indians even in places with limited or no TV connectivity,” said Gayatri Yadav, EVP- Marketing and Communications, STAR India, in a statement. “The show is about the people of India and it’s imperative it reaches every Indian,” she added.
Satyamev Jayate went on air Sunday on Star Plus as well as Doordarshan [you read it here first]. In fact, this is the first ever show to be beamed on a private channel as well as DD simultaneously. The special screening was organised by Star Plus on community TV sets in villages like Bhingara and Kahupatta in Maharashtra; Chepa in Gujarat; Jhunkar in Madhya Pradesh; Tikeri, Lalpur, Sarauta and Maaniram in Uttar Pradesh. Most of these villages have a population of less than 5,000. The initiative was taken to ensure that the show reaches all over the country as the show caters to the issues of common man.
