    Jagjit Singh passes away

    Renowned singer, Jagjit Singh passed away on Monday morning at 8am due to brain haemorrhage. The ghazal and bhajan singer had been under observation at the Lilavati hospital since September 23. He is survived by his wife Chitra Singh. His son, Vivek Singh had died earlier in 1990 in a road accident. Both husband and wife had gained their fame in the field of music. The ‘Ghazal king’ has rendered his voice in Hindi films like Prem Geet, Saath Saath, Arth, Sarfarosh and Tarqeeb. Besides Hindi, Jagjit Singh has also given his sung in Urdu, Punjabi and Nepali. The singer had also given his voice for ex-prime minister Atal Bihari Bajpayee’s poems in the albums Nayi Disha and Samvedna.

    Jagjit Singh was admitted to Lilavati hospital in Bandra, Mumbai on Friday after he suffered a brain hemorrhage and was in a critical state.  Doctors at the Lilavati Hospital in suburban Bandra performed a life-saving surgery on him, hospital sources said.  Latest updates suggest Jagjit Singh is still under observation and is stated to be in critical condition in ICU. Bollywood industry is saddened with the news.  Filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor  tweeted “Praying fr Ghazal Singer Jagjit Singh critically ill in hospital.” Actor Manoj Bajpayee expressed his concern with a tweet that said, “Jagjit Singh ji is not well. let pray for his fast recovery.”  Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan posted get well soon messages via his tweet – “T 504 -Just came to know from Lata ji’s tweet famous ghazal singer Jagjit Singh has had a brain hemorage ..     Ghazal singer Jagjit Singh hospitalised in Mumbai

    Acclaimed ghazal singer Jagjit Singh was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai today after he suffered a brain haemorrhage and is in a critical state, doctors attending to him said. Doctors at the Lilavati Hospital in suburban Bandra performed a life-saving surgery on him, hospital sources said. Singh (70) is under observation and is stated to be in critical condition, they said. Bollywood is still reeling under the shock of Nawab Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi’s loss and this news has further saddened B-towners. Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur posted a message on Twitter, “Praying fr Ghazal Singer Jagjit Singh critically ill in hospital.” Actor Manoj Bajpayee expressed his concern with a tweet that said, “Jagjit Singh ji is not well. let pray for his fast recovery.” We wish the noted Ghazal singer a speedy recovery.

    Filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor and ghazal singer Jagjit Singh go back a long way, so no doubt when Singh was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai today after he suffered a brain hemorrhage, he was a concerned man. Way back in 1983 when Kapoor made his directorial debut with Masoom, the ghazal maestro had sung the song ‘Huzoor is kadar bhi na itraake chaliye’ which is still loved by one and all. Immediately after the news of Singh’s hospitalization came out, Kapoor posted a message on Twitter “Praying fr Ghazal Singer Jagjit Singh critically ill in hospital.” The doctors at the Lilavati Hospital in suburban Bandra have performed a life-saving surgery on him and he is currently under observation and is stated to be in critical condition. The Masoom directed re-tweeted a post – “Sunte hain ki mil jaati hai har cheez mil jaati hai dua se, aaj tumhe maang ke dekhenge khuda se.” (roughly translates to: We hear that we are granted whatever we pray for, today we will ask the Almighty for you, Jagjit Singh). We hope for the ghazal maestro’s speedy recovery.
