Director Deepa Mehta has had a tough time trying to make her film Midnight’s Children hit theatre screens in India. In fact, she was asked to do away with writer Salman Rushdie’s voiceover in the film ‘coz he has been quite a controversial figure over the years as a fatwa was issued against him in 1989.
