Girish Kasarvalli busy shooting ‘Koormavathaara’
Four times winner of the Swarna Kamal national award Girish Kasaravalli has started shooting for Koormavathaara, based on a novel written by Kannada writer Kum Veerabhadrappa. Kasaravalli, described as a pioneer of new wave movement in the Kannada film industry, says the film will be contemporary and that it will depict the changes witnessed in the country in the last six decades. “The film will remind you of my earlier film Tabarana Kathe, made in 1986. I have added a little bit of discourse about the relevance of Gandhi with a story which has lot of realistic overtones,” said Kasaravalli adding that the film will make the viewers introspect. Tabarana Kathe, based on a Kannada short story by Poornachandra Tejaswi, had won the Swarna Kamal award besides getting the National Award for the best actor for Charu Hassan. Koormavathaara is being produced by Basanth Kumar Patil, former president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, who had produced Naayi Neralu and Kanasemba Kudureyanneri. This is Patil and Kasarvalli’s third film and they have already completed 15 days shoot in Bangalore. Jayanthi, known as Abhinaya Sharade, plays the lead role along with theatre artiste Shikaripura Krishnamurthy. HG Somashekhara Rao, Goa Dattu, Vikram Soori and Rashmi are also in the cast.

Karnataka State Film Awards for Vishnuvardhan, Anu Prabhakar
The Karnataka State awards for the year 2009-10 have been announced
Late actor Vishnuvardhan (posthumous) and Anu Prabhakar have bagged the best actor and best actress award for their performances in Aptharakshaka and Pareekshe respectively. Rasarishi Kuvempu directed by debutant Ritwick Simha bagged the best first film award. Manasaare directed by Yogaraj Bhatt and Love Guru directed by debutant Prashanth Raj were adjudged the second best and the third best film respectively. The Dr Rajkumar Award for Lifetime Achievement, SR Puttanna Kanagal Award for Lifetime Achievement in Direction and Dr Vishnuvardhan Award for Lifetime Achievement in Production has been conferred to veterans RN Sudarshan, CV Shivashankar and SD Ankalagi respectively. Girish Kasaravalli’s Kanasembo Kudureyaneri, which has bagged some national and international awards including the best actor for Vyjanath Biradaar at the Madrid International Film Festival, has been rejected outright by the Dwarakish committee.

Raj Kumar family helps lift ban on Nikitha Thukral
Legendary actor Raj Kumar’s family has come to her rescue
Film producers in Karnataka have overturned the three-year ban imposed on actor Nikita Thukral, reportedly after direct intervention from the first family of Sandalwood, led by Mrs Parvathamma Rajkumar, the wife of late cine legend Raj Kumar. The Kannada Film Producers’ Association released a statement to this effect and confirmed that there was no plan to ban actor Darshan, who is currently in prison on charges of assaulting his wife Vijayalakshmi. In an FIR, the wife had mentioned a possible affair between Darshan and Nikita for her predicament. Click here to read more
