    Amitabh Bachchan remembers Mehdi Hassan

    Legendary Pakistan ghazal singer Mehdi Hassan passed away yesterday in Karachi after prolonged health ailments. Amitabh Bachchan was one of the first B-towners to tweet about the musical maestro’s demise. Big B said on Twitter: “Deeply pained to learn of the passing away of Mehdi Hassan in Pakistan… a vocalist of immense fame and unique sonorous voice.” He further added, “Mehdi Hassan, an entire era of soulful ghazal singing gone… now left with beautiful memories and personal meetings with him.” Big B was one of those few Hindi film personalities who has met the Pakistani artist. Recalling his meeting with the singer, Bachchan senior said, “Mehdi Hassan once told me, he came from humble beginnings, and used to train and sing to the tone of the tractor sound in the fields.”

    Bollywood singers Alka Yagnik, Kumar Sanu visit Mehdi Hassan’s grave in Karachi

    Bollywood singers Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu visited the grave of Pakistani ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan in Karachi to pay their respects. Mehdi Hassan’s death marked an end of an epoch in the subcontinent’s music history, they said. No one will ever be able to fill the vacuum created by his demise, they told reporters on June 16. Alka said she had grown up listening to his ballads and was in love with his songs Dono jahan teri mohabbat main har kay and Woh ja raha hay koi. The India-born singer died of breathing complications at a private nursing home in Karachi on June 13. His funeral took place Friday. Hassan, who has a huge fan following around the world, had been suffering from lung, chest and urinary tract ailments for the past many years. The Indian singers had come to Pakistan to attend the last rites of the legendary singer but could not obtain a security clearance for the same, Geo News reported.
