Mission Impossible 4 actor Anil Kapoor feels his buddy Anupam Kher’s Hollywood film will be nominated for the Academy Award
Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor feels Anupam Kher-starrer Silver Linings Playbook is the front-runner for an Oscar nomination. “He (Anupam Kher) has been a kind of an actor who has been an integral part of so many films, like Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Ram Lakhan, Beta, Saaransh, and Daddy. Then Bend It Like Beckham and now Silver Linings Playbook, which I am confidently saying is the frontrunner for nomination for the Oscar,” the 52-year-old said at the 14th Mumbai Film Festival on Thursday evening. Why does Amitabh Bachchan prefer Bollywood over Hollywood?
Unlike actors Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri and Irrfan Khan, who’ve gained massive popularity in the West after playing some memorable characters, the superstar prefers to keep his talent reserved just for Hindi/Indian films. Pakistan goes to ‘Waar’
Lollywood’s most expensive and slick film is all set to release on Valentine’s Day, and it’s not about love
That the Pakistani film industry is in seemingly irreversible decline is a well-known fact by now, dominated as it is by our Bollywood offerings. However, every once in a while, our neighbours pull off a stunning cinematic coup. For example, Shoaib Mansoor’s sensitive take on Islam in the modern age, Khuda Kay Liye, was a massive success on both sides of the border. And now, come Valentine’s Day, Warner Bros will release Bilal Lashari’s film on counter-terrorism, Waar. Alas, only in Pakistan for now with maybe a few other international playdates. At $8 million (that’s Rs 42 crore to you and me), the film is easily Pakistan’s biggest film of all time. And it stars Shaan, who Indian audiences will remember from Khuda Kay Liye and is Pakistan’s Shahrukh, Salman and Aamir all rolled into one. The film also stars Shamoon Abbasi, who is a popular television actor.

And this is how we endured Bollywood in year 2011…The ability to endure is a virtue and who could know this better than us? We have been sustaining B-town brawls, bad films, big-headed actors and bucketfuls of balderdash for years now…
There’s a masochist in each one of us – perhaps that is why time and again we get ourselves involved in infuriating Bollywood hype and hoopla. There is a lot to look forward to this New Year, but before that we must not forget to peek through our achievements in the previous year. And by achievements we mean our heroic skills of getting down there into the filmi chaos, witnessing, tolerating, and at times drooling at every bit of the drama that transpired in the Hindi filmi duniya in 2011… Click here to read more
Anil Kapoor, the new poster boy of ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’
Hollywood star Tom Cruise decided to cash in on Anil Kapoor’s huge mass appeal amongst Asians and insisted on featuring the jhakas actor on the MI4 movie poster
Just a few days ago when we saw the theatrical release of the much touted Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, starring Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise, we could barely see Anil Kapoor’s presence in it. It was just a blink-and-miss sort of existence of the Slumdog Millionaire actor in the promo and the poster. This made us wonder if Kapoor has any significance in the movie at all. We did not see him anywhere as the promotions of MI4 started gaining momentum. But going by the new poster released by the production house of the film, featuring Anil Kapoor prominently on it, we heaved a sigh of relief! Click here to read more

Nicole Kidman to do a Bollywood item number for just Rs 5 crore?
The Hollywood star might have another connection with B-town after Moulin Rouge!
It is not just Tom Cruise who has an India connection now (thanks to MI4). His ex-wife and Hollywood star Nicole Kidman is apparently a part of an upcoming Bollywood project directed by Rumi Jaffery. Reportedly, the Australia star has been approached by Jaffery to do a desi item number in his forthcoming film Gali Gali Mein Chor Hai. Bollywood is not new to Nicole. In her film Moulin Rouge, Anu Malik’s item song Chamma Chamma from China Gate had been used by director Baz Luhrmann with full credits. Kidman had also appeared in an ad with RA.One hottie Arjun Rampal and Slumdog Millionaire child star Rubina Ali. Click here to read more

No James Bond for India, but Tom Cruise will visit for ‘MI4’
Cineswami talks about Hollywood’s India connection, and also Shahrukh Khan’s RA.One
Bond, James Bond. But Daniel Craig won’t be uttering those lines any time soon on Indian soil as the James Bond producers haven’t managed to reach an agreement with Indian Railways on permissions. Surely, there’s something black in the lentils as there have been protracted discussions on a part of the shoot happening in India. The Railways say that on their part everything was hunky dory and the decks were cleared for the world’s most famous secret agent to return to India for the first time since Octopussy. February would have seen a motorcycle-riding Bond, the very antithesis of Gandhian values, jump on a moving train near Sabarmati. That jump will now happen in the fallback location, South Africa.
At least Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt has no such issues. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol had a hush-hush shoot in India and also cast Anil Kapoor in it for good measure. Cruise will visit Mumbai for a fan screening of the film ahead of its world premiere in Dubai. This begs the question, if the film plays before the public in Mumbai first, shouldn’t that logically be called the world premiere? On such weighty semantic matters do the world revolve.
Meanwhile, the ubiquitous Shahrukh Khan is pulling out all the promotional stops till we have RA.One coming out of our ears. Click here to read more
