Ayesha Takia: I don’t want to be a bimbette in the background

Ayesha Takia: I don’t want to be a bimbette in the background

After a short break Ayesha Takia, happily settled into married life, returns to the silver screen with Nagesh Kukunoor’s Mod. In a quick chat the talented actor reveals that henceforth she will only do roles that will go down in the history of worthwhile Hindi cinema
While everyone thought that Ayesha Takia would not act after her marriage to long-time beau Farhan Azmi, she did not think so. She wanted to do films that would touch and move her and her fans. So once again she teamed up with her rakhi brother and favourite filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor for his forthcoming Mod. Apart from her personal rapport with the director, Ayesha says, “The role is a woman-centric one, but apart from that I am a sucker for romance. So if someone is trying to tell a story about love, I would love to be part of it. When Nagesh said it’s his first love story and it centres around the journey of this girl, I was excited to do it. And it has proven to be so, as I have watched the film several times and thoroughly loved it.” Click here to read more

Ayesha Takia to make her debut on small screen!

Ayesha Takia to make her debut on small screen!

Looks like plenty of B-townies are getting attracted to the small screen and the newest one treading on this path is Ayesha Takia Azmi! The last we saw her was in Nagesh Kukunoor’s Mod after which she sort of vanished. According to rumours, Ayesha wasn’t just sitting whiling her time away. The babelicious actor was busy getting ready for musical reality show. With Rs 85 lakh as her signing amount, Ayesha takes on the role of the anchor on the show, and will share screen space with music mentors Himesh Reshammiya and Atif Aslam along with judges Suresh Wadkar, Runa Laila and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Not bad! After marrying longtime boyfriend Farhan Azmi, Ayesha wasn’t really doing much for the big screens. So maybe it is the right time to explore smaller territories. Not that TV is small anymore. With biggies like Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan vying for the top spot on television, it’s only fair to call it the ‘big move’ for Ayesha.

MOD Quick Movie Review: Slow going, but with a twist

MOD Quick Movie Review: Slow going, but with a twist

After Rockford and Hyderabad Blues, we all expected great things from director Nagesh Kukunoor. Some duds later (like Bombay to Bangkok), he did do us proud with Dor, but then followed that up with the thud-flop Tasveer 24/7. Now he has come up with Mod, with his fave lady Ayesha Takia, and filmy newbie Rannvijay Singh. This is what our very own critic smsed us as he watched the preview: First half: slow, full of wtf moments, good cinematography. Rannvijay hams full on, acts pansy. Takia looks pretty. Raghuvir Yadav sings two songs. But there is a khatru twist at the interval point.” We wait for the full review from our critic. You can watch this space for a link to the main review tomorrow.

Nagesh Kukunoor: ‘Mod’ is an unusual Bollywood love story

Nagesh Kukunoor: ‘Mod’ is an unusual Bollywood love story

Critically acclaimed Bollywood filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor in a chat about his latest film Mod and how he wants to make action, crime and sci-fi films in the future

In Bollywood, love stories are more common than anything else. So why would someone want to watch Mod? What is so special about it?
Well, Mod is a love story but it is not the kind you see in Bollywood today. For me love stories work only when characters are mismatched and the journey of falling in love is equally important if not more than the actual act of falling in love. If you as the audience already know yes these two people are already made for each other then the fun is lost, but if the characters are quirky as it is in Mod you wonder that how are these two people going to come together. Having said that, there is also an element of mystery associated with the film. Click here to read more

    Are Ayesha and Nagesh inseparable?

    Are Ayesha and Nagesh inseparable?

With Dor, Ayesha Takia finally managed to convince people that she could act. Nagesh Kukunoor got most of the credit for bringing out the best in her, and since then Ayesha has been an integral part of the Kukunoor camp
Recently spotted at the promotional event of Mod, the next movie she’s doing with the director, she, of course, couldn’t escape the most expected question. “Is it true that you are only allowed to work with Nagesh?” jabbered a journo and before she could reply, Click here to read more

    What happens when Prateik disappears?

Prateik is one actor who’s in great demand these days. But what happens when this hot property disappears and leaves the directors who approach him in the lurch? Nagesh Kukunoor is one such filmmaker who faced the same plight because of the actor.
Both of them were in serious discussion on Nagesh’s upcoming film Mod and also had a couple of meetings before finalising the project, until one day Prateik vanished and left Nagesh dumbstruck. Click here to read more
