    What Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ is all about

    Naina Catherine Kapur (Preity Zinta) lives in New York City with her younger brother and sister, her mother Jennifer (Jaya Bachchan) and her grandmother Lajjo (Sushma Seth). Her father committed suicide when she was a teenager and things have been tense in her family ever since. Her family owns a restaurant that’s doing really badly and is about to shut down. Naina also studying for a business degree part-time. Her only friend is her fellow student, Rohit Patel (Saif Ali Khan). Naina is unaware that Rohit is in love with her, and Rohit is unable to muster the courage to tell her. Naina’s new neighbour is Aman Mathur (Shahrukh Khan), who has just come to NYC from India with his mother. When he realises Naina’s family troubles, he helps her out. He befriends everyone in her house with his happy-go-lucky demeanour, gets her restaurant up and running again and resolves the tension between her mother and grandmother over Naina’s younger sister, Gia. Naina falls in love with him, but before she tells him that, he mentions to her that he is married. Naina is heartbroken. After she leaves, Aman reveals to his mother that actually, he is in love with her too. Aman and his mother had come to the city to continue his treatment for his fatal heart disease, and he is actually single.
