    Yash Chopra and Rajesh Khanna to be honoured with Phalke Academy awards

    The Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Awards will be bestowed on singer Asha Bhosle, actor Mala Sinha, late filmmaker Yash Chopra, and late superstar Rajesh Khanna among several others at a ceremony in Mumbai on April 30
    Asha, who has regaled music lovers with her melodious voice in her over six decades old career, will receive the Phalke Ratna Award from the academy, while Mala Sinha, who has acted in Pyaasa, Maryada and Hariyali Aur Rasta will get the Golden Era Award. Click here to read more

    Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi were conferred with the Padma Bhushan award by President Pratibha Patil. The award ceremony took place in New Delhi today. Shabana wrote on micro blogging site Twitter, “Just received the Padma Bhushan award from the president of India. I am honoured, humbled and thank all those who made this journey possible.” The function was attended by some of the illustrious people in the field of politics, education and entertainment. Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi also made their presence felt at the ceremony. We congratulate the veteran actors for this prestigious victory.

    Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has been conferred the Maanbindu – Maharashtrian of the Year award by Marathi newspaper Lokmat. He was honoured by President Pratibha Patil in Mumbai. In his fabulous and long career, Bachchan has been honoured many times with several awards. But, according to him, the Maanbindu award is different. Bachchan tweeted, “Today among all the thoughts another award and that’s The Maharashtrian of the Year, the Maanbindu for me has been given by the President of India.” It seems that this award has left Big B very nostalgic.     President, Prime Minister condole Dev Anand’s death

    President Pratibha Patil condoled the death of legendary actor Dev Anand, saying the film industry has lost a creative talent and a man who personified the spirit of graceful ageing with dignity. In her statement, the President said: “Anand was a legendary film artiste as well as a producer, director and writer who adorned the Hindi cinema with great distinction. He delighted Hindi cinema fans with his vivacious acting and as a popular romantic hero of his times.” The 88-year-old actor passed away after a massive cardiac arrest in London on Saturday night. Recalling his movies, Patil said: “He shall always be remembered by a generation of film watchers for his exemplified acting in the movies – ‘Taxi Driver’, ‘Munimji’, ‘Guide’, ‘Johny Mera Naam’, ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’ and ‘Des Pardes’. In his passing away, the film industry has lost a creative talent and a man who personified the spirit of graceful ageing with dignity.” Prime Minister Manmohan Singh too condoled the legend’s death, saying, “Dev Anand was a great artiste who entertained generations of cinema lovers over five decades. He was an embodiment of long passion for acting and film-making. I join millions of his fans in mourning his death.” Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said, “He will forever be remembered as Hindi cinema’s evergreen hero.” The iconic star is survived by his wife, former actor Kalpana Karthik, a son and a daughter.
