Born on February 3, 1980, Rakhi Sawant has been bestowed by tons of names including loud, crass, uncouth, motor mouth, drama queen etc, but none of that has stopped the firecracker of a babe from being any less entertaining. And today, as she enters the 34th year of her life, we look back at some of the most entertaining gimmicks Rakhi has been a party to!

Rakhi-Mika kissing scandal! The brash singer, equally, if not more than Rakhi took a well calculated risk, it seems, when he forcefully kissed Rakhi square on the mouth in view of the Indian news media. The act literally gave birth a new lexicon “publicity by controversy” in B-town and made Rakhi, who was only a few item numbers famous, a household name!

Not marrying her husband-to-be after the Swayamvar! In a first of its kind, brave new reality show, Rakhi Sawant was to marry the man of her dreams after a heavily publicised search for the brave guy. And her search was successful too, as she zeroed in on a balding but ‘classy’ businessman from Canada, Elesh Parujanwala. Yet Rakhi got ‘cold feet’ at the last moment and ended up only engaging him on TV. And when the duo couldn’t score another reality show that would dwell on their newly engaged status, Rakhi dumped him and geared up to cook another little storm for the cameras!

Contestant Laxman Singh Aharwar death! Stunts that are done for mere cheap entertainment value can end up hurting people deeply, was the lesson that Rakhi hopefully walked away with when a contestant actually died after her show. The Jhansi resident Laxman Singh Ahrawar committed suicide after being allegedly insulted on her vigilante show Rakhi ka Insaaf for being impotent, where Rakhi would regularly called upon erring individuals who were made to bear the brunt of her fiery tongue. A case was registered against her and the channel was held responsible along with Rakhi for his death.

Baba Ramdev’s virginity! This one must have been a sure shot shocker for babaji who himself holds similar entertaining yet controversial views. After Baba Ramdev dismissed her marriage proposal to him as indecent, Rakhi challenged the baba to participate in the reality show Bigg Boss, where she said she would cause him to ‘lose his virginity!’ Well, there was no retort from the god man as he nursed his hurt pride, while Rakhi cemented her position as a firebrand entertaining motor mouth!

Slapping the boyfriend! Rakhi placed a few well deserved slaps on boyfriend Abhishek Awasthi’s rosy cheeks after he tuned up on Valentine’s Day with a bunch of roses. And though the incident reeked of a publicity stunt, it was laugh out loud fun to see the make-believe lovers’ tiff, and notice the coy smile on Rakhi’s face after news channels turned up to record the incident. Also, in the video where Mika kisses Rakhi, Abhishek can be seen cheering him on! Now we really wish that she would have slapped him harder!

Boob-job woes! The babe uttered the infamous words that truly made us term senseless yet practical humour to be branded as Rakhi Sawant humour. On an episode on Koffee with Karan, Rakhi confessed to getting a boob-job done where she remarked, “Jo Bhagwan nahi deta, woh doctor deta hai!” Well, we couldn’t agree more while we were in splits on our couches!

The upcoming Union Budget 2012 may have all taxpaying Indians wary about their financial future but that didn’t stop our very own Rakhi Sawant from using the opportunity to garner some more publicity for herself. The item girl caused a stir when landed up unexpectedly at Parliament today (March 13) at the start of the Budget session. She admitted that she was not invited by any politician. “I just came to meet the MPs. I’ve come to see Parliament, to see how it works and how our leaders are working.” A surprise check! Wow! She also said, “I am here to know the Budget. I want to see how leaders are working. I want to request Sonia Gandhi that there should be something for the women too.”

Unlike her usual style of criticising national events, Rakhi had only positive things to say this time around. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, the key individual behind the Budget, was at the receiving end of her praise. “I have full confidence that Pranab Mukherjee would make a good Budget,” she said. She added that yoga guru Baba Ramdev, whom she had once said she wished to wed, should “do yoga and keep quiet.” A case of sour grapes, perhaps? He did turn her down, remember?

However self-serving Rakhi’s motivation behind the visit maybe, you can’t deny that she has done what every tax payer dreams of doing – meeting their elected representatives and putting their wishes forward. The girl sure has guts!

Some things are best suited to some people. Try copying others and your attempts will probably boomerang big time! Sherlyn Chopra needs to learn this lesson sooner rather than later…or right now. After posing in bare nothingness, the former contestant of Big Boss 3 has resorted to a verbal tirade. Sherlyn has been making a big noise and tweeting relentlessly to catch the maximum number of eyeballs and fuel controversy that will occupy time and space she hardly deserves. Sample this: “Let us quit being hypocrites n quit being apologetic for what v r n who v r! Hail Freedom!!!“ After propounding the fundamental constitutional right of freedom of expression, Sherlyn quickly jumps to comparing herself with Katrina Kaif and out comes one more tweet: “Aurat jism ki numaayish kare toh chikni chameli kehalaati hai,ussi jism ko bechhe,toh kuch aur kehalaati hai!!!Welcome 2 the moral universe@(sic)”.

Cashing in on the ripples she set off with her racy pictures in cyberspace, Sherlyn resorts to tweeting, using the micro-blogging medium to her advantage. But her desperation doesn’t seem to end. Now she has become a Twitter addict and posted yet another tweet: “I`m no.1 on Google India list of most searched keyword since y`day eve.Seems like my pics have raised the temperature of netizens! A big muah(sic).” Wow! But hey, whoah, this is way too much, girl! Take it easy! We know you want to race ahead of Poonam Pandey, Sunny Leone and Veena Malik, but getting off the mark by using Rakhi Sawant’s trademark approach is a complete no-no! Rakhi is known for her over-the-top cheesy remarks and caustic words, but she does so when posed a question she is irritated by in media interactions, not when there is no provocation. It’s her style, something she has copyright over, and we all know that. Over the years Ms Sawant has learned the art of doing it in moderation and she times it well. You need to come up with a fresher idea to turn our heads, Sherlyn. For now, you are going overboard both with your dare-bare acts and your words (read tweets), which is all quite desperate, even gross. It’s high time you toned down your despo factor and got your PR moves correct, wethinks!

Rakhi Sawant sure is a funny girl but looks like Baba Ramdev is not amused by her recent statements. During the promotion of her TV show Gajab Desh Ki Ajab Kahaniyaan, the item girl had said that she would want marry Baba Ramdev. An item girl dating a yogi? Even the sound of it is hilarious, isn’t it? To make things even more interesting, recently when Rakhi was asked why she was interested in Baba, she had said, “Why not? He is a yogi and I’m a rogi (He is a holy man and I’m a patient)!” Now, Rakhi might have had her audience in splits with that quirky sense of humour, but it has definitely angered Baba. The yogi, who had not reacted to Rakhi’s statements so far, decided to speak out to the media during his special appearance on the singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs. “Agar Rakhi mera naam leke apne show ka promotion karwana chahti hai toh yeh kaafi ochi baat hai. Ek sant ko Rakhi apna target bana rahi hai (If Rakhi is using my name to promote her show, then it’s a cheap thing to do. Rakhi is targeting a saint),” Baba said. Well, Rakhi, since Baba has clearly stated that he is not interested, you could do another Swayamwar and find your Mr perfect! What say?

Rakhi Sawant should consider a change of name: Ms Motormouth! The quote-a-minute gal has come up with a few more, this time less funny, more startling. She has told her audience during a promotional event for her new talk show that she wants to get hitched to Baba Ramdev. We are rather amazed that even she could show such bad – dubious? – taste in men. Okay, she got rid of Abhishek Awasthi after some on-off acts in a media circus, but we figured everyone needs a couple of youthful indiscretions. Then we kinda liked that Elesh Parujanwala when she decided to marry him after her television swayamwar, but he turned out to be a bad egg, at least in Rakhi’s telling of it. Then she declared that she was in love with Rahul Gandhi, which showed that her sense of style and judgement had improved incrementally. Now she says that Ramdev is her choice for the happily-ever-after scene, because she likes his eyes. And, as part of what we presume will finally become her trousseau, she had demanded at least three sets of C-strings, those strangely configured and goodness-knows-how-uncomfortable things that serve as ‘strapless’ panties, thus eliminating the need to disguise pantylines and the like that can ruin the fall of an outfit over the behind that makes Ms Sawant such a bootylicious babe. She wants them in red, green and purple, she insists, and will not shoot unless she is wearing (uhh…is that what they call it?) one. Of course, we always knew that Rakhi was a demanding – and expensive – kind of gal, but perhaps the producers of the new show now have to budget for the Baba’s extended wardrobe too, what with his penchant for women’s salwar kameezes in times of crisis. And with Rakhi as his wife, that will be often indeed….
