Anna, Ramdev have a Bollywood connection!

Anna, Ramdev have a Bollywood connection!

Anna Hazare or Baba Ramdev, everyone has a reason to protest. And here are some extremely creative ways in which some people have commented on some of the problems India is dealing with everyday…
Yesterday we showed you an example of how people involved in popular movements take ‘inspiration’ from Bollywood either to further their cause or just to present it in a lighter vein. The image came from an email forward and had a picture of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi morphed on to a poster of a popular film released in 1999, starring Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai. We have found more such posters, new and old, with people like Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare playing major roles, but not all of them flaunt a cause. Sometimes they have been created by folk who have nothing to do with any cause and nothing better to do with their time. But that is the occupational hazard of being a politician or a crusader – people give their mischievous streak free reign at your expense! Bollywoodlife on its part does not in any way support or promote the mockery, whoever it may be directed at, but we are simply sharing something we found interesting and what has appealed to you, judging by the viewership it has garnered. And this will definitely save you a trip to join Anna at Ramlila Maidan, no? But just remember guys, this is all in jest. No offence!Click here to read more

Om Puri apologises for remarks on politicians

Om Puri apologises for remarks on politicians

At 60, we expected Om Puri to have more discretion. Last Friday, as part of the Anna Hazare protest meet at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, he was passionate about his feelings against politicians. He said, “I feel ashamed when an IAS or IPS officer salutes a ganwar (illiterate) who is a neta (political leader). Yeh anpadh hain, inka kya background hai? Aadhe se zyaada MP ganwaar hain….” And that has got him in fairly serious trouble, since Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar announced today that she is considering a privilege motion against the actor for his “derogatory and defamatory” remarks. Puri has apologised, saying, “It was wrong on my part to use such terms. I wasn’t drunk, I was just emotionally charged. I would love to be in Parliament to explain my emotions. If they (Parliament) are still angry with me, I will take whatever punishment they give me.”

Aamir Khan as Anna Hazare in new film?

Aamir Khan as Anna Hazare in new film?

While we are fully appreciative of Aamir Khan’s various non-Bollywood interests and his support of the cause of the common man, we cannot help wondering if it all comes down to the role…eventually. You saw him sit by Anna Hazare at the Ramlila Maidan protest last weekend and you may even have felt a little teary-eyed at the way he supported the activist on the stage. But we heard something that could add a little gossip-spice to the whole thing – apparently Ghajini producer Madhu Mantena wants Aamir to play a prominent role in his remake of the Telugu film, Tagore, the story of an anti-corruption crusader, essayed by Chiranjeevi. If things go as rumoured, our Khan saheb will act the part of the crusader who starts a vigilante organisation to fight corruption. We also heard, by the way, that Prakash Jha is also making a film on those lines, with Amitabh Bachchan as the hero.
