Satyajit Ray’s 92nd birth anniversary: Google Doodle honours the Indian filmmaker
The Bharat Ratna and Oscar Award-winning Indian filmmaker is highly respected and revered in international cinema
Born on May 2, 1921, in Calcutta, Satyajit Ray was one of India’s precious gifts to world cinema. The prolific filmmaker, who received an honorary Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement almost on his deathbed in 1992, inspired many acclaimed international directors like Martin Scorsese, Danny Boyle, Mira Nair and Shyam Benegal to name a few. Japanese cinema great Akira Kurosawa praised Ray’s work.
