Aishwarya Sakhuja: Cool to kiss in movies but not TV!

Aishwarya Sakhuja: Cool to kiss in movies but not TV!

The ideal daughter-in-law of Saas Bina Sasuraal says she wouldn’t mind getting intimate on screen
Sony TV’s Bade Acche Lagte Hain set a new milestone in Hindi television with it’s long bedroom scene a couple of weeks ago. The channel followed it up with a not-so-intimate love scene in Kya Hua Tera Vaada. The same channel also airs Saas Bina Sasuraal. The family drama is one of the more sedate, circumspect shows on television with Aishwarya Sakhuja playing the ideal, quite traditional daughter-in-law Toasty. She doesn’t even get intimately close to her husband Tej. Why is that, you wonder? Click here to read more

Women’s Day special: Sandhya is a ‘worthy’ daughter-in-law in ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’

Women’s Day special: Sandhya is a ‘worthy’ daughter-in-law in ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’

Move over, Rajini, Shanti and Jassi. It’s time for women to live with downcast eyes, manage the household and engage in kitchen politics

The depiction of women in Hindi TV shows has changed dramatically over the years. Sadly, it hasn’t been a positive change. For a while it seemed as if Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin would herald the return of powerful women such as Rajini and Shanti, but Tulsi and Parvati continued to rule. Flip through any channel today and you are bound to see women pushed into unrealistic slots and then portrayed in a totally unbelievable manner. Of course, there are exceptions. Priya of Bade Acche Lagte Hain works as a lecturer even after marrying into a rich household. Widowed Megha Vyas of Na Bole Tum… Na Maine Kuch Kaha gets a job so she can supplement her family’s income instead of depending on her brother-in-law. But they remain exceptions, not the norm. Here are a few of the norms that had us groaning: Click here to read more

Aishwarya Sakhuja: I wish I could be like Toasty

Aishwarya Sakhuja: I wish I could be like Toasty

The Saas Bina Sasuraal actor says while her character is a ‘sorted’ person, she herself is certainly not so in real life
Tanya aka Toasty in Saas Bina Sasuraal (SBS) has just gone through a rough patch and come out the better for it, but Aishwarya Sakhuja, who plays the character on the Sony show, is yet to get her wish granted in real life. “I just need five days off. My dad was in the Army and, as a kid, I have hardly stayed in the same city for a long period. I get sick of one city if I stay there too long. I want to explore another part of the country for a break and then get back to work, but that’s not possible,” she sighs. Click here to read more
