AGENT VINOD movie review: Not all guns blazing!
Agent Vinod could have been the coolest spy thriller to come out of India since it does not have too much competition in that department. But it misses the mark by a good margin. Director Sriram Raghavan loses the plot by trying too hard and packing in as much as he possibly could in one big budget flick
Before you start watching Agent Vinod you have some expectations from it since you know at least three important things: Sriram Raghavan has directed two very underrated and understated but intelligent thrillers – Ek Haseena Thi and Johnny Gaddar , that he has waited five years for Agent Vinod to materialize and it’s Saif Ali Khan’s home production and his most ambitious project.
To start with, the spy thriller has a perfect beginning. The story kicks off in Afghanistan where Agent Vinod (Saif Ali Khan) is being held hostage. The smart and daring character of Vinod is quickly established with his witty repartee and quirky manner of dealing with his enemy, followed by a well-shot action sequence in the desert and the slickly done title credits. Heavily inspired by A-Team! Click here to read more

When ‘Agent Vinod’ called up ‘Krrish’ for advice
Saif Ali Khan who’s excited about the release of his upcoming mega-thriller Agent Vinod has admitted to have called up Hrithik Roshan for some tips for playing the daredevil spy
Ask Saif Ali Khan about the discipline it requires to play a macho star and you will know that it’s a tiring job. The actor will be seen fighting bad men, somersaulting in cars and jumping off bridges in his film Agent Vinod, releasing this Friday. We hear that the 41-year-old actor did not enjoy preparing for the supreme action hero role. “All that yoga, dieting, it wasn’t fun,” said Saif in an interview to a daily. Click here to read more
‘Agent Vinod’ in trouble for plagiarising
Saif Ali Khan’s Agent Vinod had barely recovered the money pumped into the ambitious project and the makers are already running into trouble for lifting songs from well known films without prior permission
Agent Vinod is this year’s reasonably expensive film with the cost amounting to a whopping Rs 60 crore. By the end of March, the action-based spy thriller had recovered nearly Rs 40 crores but is still way below the mark for it to be considered a success. And now grappling with fresh controversies, the producers of the Saif Ali Khan-Kareena Kapoor starrer may have to cough up extra money. Click here to read more
Sriram Raghavan: I don’t think anybody other than Saif Ali Khan can play ‘Agent Vinod’
The director of Saif Ali Khan’s latest espionage thriller is anxious about the buzz surrounding his film. In a candid chat, he spoke to us about his passion for cinema and why he set Agent Vinod in so many countries despite knowing it could be a logistical nightmare and some more…
Sriram Raghavan made an apologetic entry at Saif Ali Khan’s office since he was considerably late for the interview. The ice broke when we spoke about the subtle nuances of his earlier thrillers like Ek Haseena Thi and Johnny Gaddaar. The director, who has made only three films so far, said that he was aware that he wasn’t going to live for 200 years and he wants to make more movies (not money, he quickly added). As Sriram prepared himself for a string of interviews that had been scheduled for the day, we had a candid conversation with the director over some coffee. Click here to read more

Pyar ki pungi: Pritam is inspired yet again
Even as Saif tries to woo his audience with this song, we find out that it’s uncannily similar to a song by the Iranian underground pop group Barobax
It’s really not surprising to find out that Pritam has yet again found inspiration in an international track. His much-talked about Pyar Ki Pungi from Agent Vinod is very similar to the song Soosan Khanoom by an Iranian underground band called Barobax. The starting beats of the songs are exactly the same, in fact. Later, Pritam goes on to a slightly different tune before coming back to the original in the music after the chorus and the rap portion in the stanza, which are again exactly like the Barobax song. Kareena Kapoor’s ‘Agent Vinod’ mujra number
Bebo looks like a million bucks, but her dance moves in the song aren’t worth anywhere near that much!
The teaser promo of Kareena Kapoor’s mujra song, Dil mera muft ka from Agent Vinod is just out and we must say that Bebo’s trying really hard to get the classic adaayein right. Did she manage to? We don’t think so. The thing is, our gal has a lot of comparisons to deal with. Some of her predecessors have set the standards for a filmi mujra too high to easily reach up to – like Rekha’s class act in Dil cheez kya hai from Umrao Jaan, followed by Aishwarya Rai’s graceful dance in the newer version of the same movie and Madhuri Dixit’s silky-sexy moves in Maar dala from Devdas. Saif Ali Khan follows Shahrukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan
Saif has denied that Agent Vinod is just like a James Bond film, but the star aspires to make it into a series just like the 007 flicks….this continuity is something that most B-town’s top stars have been aiming for
Bollywood’s male stars have been chasing films that can get them a long running and successful franchise. Almost every big star has one now and those who don’t are scouting for a brand new potential series. And why not! After all, it becomes a star-exclusive product and a money spinning machine too. The only thing they need to build a successful franchise is an open-ended plot with one super character who can continue to evolve and entertain through interesting stories. Click here to read more
Did Kareena Kapoor oust Priyanka Chopra from ‘Agent Vinod’ song?
Though the makers of the film and the actors in it are tight-lipped about the story, the fact remains that Priyanka Chopra was originally invited to do a traditional mujra in Agent Vinod. Apparently it was Kareena who put her foot down and insisted on doing the ‘item number’ herself instead of letting her long time rival steal any of the thunder
Agent Vinod is Saif Ali Khan’s baby. The Nawab of Pataudi turned producer because he always wanted to do a film of this scale. This is Saif’s second film as a producer after Love Aaj Kal and the 41-year-old will be romancing real-life love Kareena Kapoor in the film. It’s an open secret that if you produce a movie, it gives you the power to select a star cast of your choice. At least that’s how it works in Bollywood. We heard that the director of the film Sriram Raghavan was keen to have a classical mujra in Agent Vinod and his first choice to do the number was Priyanka Chopra. But when Kareena found out about it – a little birdie told us with much wicked chortling – she was not particularly happy about the director’s choice and influenced producer-beau Saif to picturise the song on hers rather than letting arch-rival PC steal the limelight with her sexy moves.
