Sharman Joshi: Connections don’t help in Bollywood
He is not a stranger to filmdom, considering his father-in-law is veteran artiste Prem Chopra, his aunt Sarita Joshi is a renowned theatre and TV actor, and his sister Mansi Joshi is an actor married to actor-filmmaker Rohit Roy. But Sharman Joshi says connections don’t work in showbiz and everyone has to prove his or her mettle to get recognition
“You are at the mercy of people. No connections really help here (filmdom). You have to prove yourself. No one can fight the battle for you. It has been a lonely journey,” said Sharman Joshi. Click here to read more
Why is Priyanka Chopra doing short and sweet roles?
Despite the multifaceted actor’s talent and current status, she is relegated to roles that are stereotypical parts – playing the protagonist’s love interest and adding glamour
In Don 2, Priyanka Chopra played a crucial role of a cop and also harboured a soft corner for her criminal, but it was limited, considering her star power and acting prowess. Similarly, in Agneepath she played an ardent lover who provided light moments in the gruesome plot, a fairly trite role that is most offered to female actors in the larger-than-life, masala entertainers. All this makes us wonder why the talented leading lady is doing clichéd and trivial roles. Is it because Saat Khoon Maaf, the film she had pinned great hopes on, was critically acclaimed but didn’t make money for the producers and distributors?Click here to read more
Saif Ali Khan wants to do roles befitting his age!
It’s high time he did! However, we are glad that at last one 40-year-old actor has realised that it isn’t cool to play a 20-year-old loverboy any more
Bollywood filmmakers are famous for taking unfathomable cinematic liberties with their screenplays. Like a film’s hero can put ten goons to sleep with one hard punch or break into song and dance in the middle of a packed street without causing any traffic chaos. However, one small suspension of disbelief that really beats everybody’s imagination is that 40-plus actors continue to successfully play 20-year-olds or college students in one film after another. Vidhu Vinod Chopra is unfair?
The producer refuses to give the young hero of Ferrari ki Sawaari his due publicity. Is he being protective or this is just to grab our attention?
Vidhu Vinod Chopra has taken upon himself to guard the identity of the young hero who will debut in the cricket-centric flick Ferrari ki Sawaari. The reason he gives for this secrecy is, “I want to protect him from the world. I don’t want an innocent mind to be corrupted by sudden attention and end up selling everything from soap to cereals. Kids should be treated like kids and not young adults.” Click here to read more
Sharman Joshi finally signs more films!
If rumours are to be believed, choosy actor Sharman Joshi has signed two big films – the Rock On!! sequel and Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s next with Ranbir Kapoor. We hope the rumours are true, ‘coz we wanna see more of the talented actor
Ever since his first film, the hard-hitting Godmother, and the far less serious college caper Style, Sharman Joshi has come across as an actor with immense talent. But we always wondered why the unconventional-looking lad did very few and very carefully selected films. In the recent past he also proved that he can be noticed even in multi-starrers – Rang De Basanti and 3 Idiots. Despite a small part in those movies, he managed to stand out in the rather large crowd. So here is one actor with talent; why is the industry ignoring him? Click here to read more
