Madhur Bhandarkar on jury of Cairo film fest
Acclaimed Indian director Madhur Bhandarkar has been invited at the 35th Cairo International Film Festival, starting November 27, to judge a segment. Bhandarkar has been chosen to be part of the International Jury segment because of his contribution to the Indian cinema. “I am delighted to be a part of the International Jury for the 35th edition of Cairo International Film Festival. I love the theme that they have ‘positive thinking revolution and freedom’,” the 44-year-old said in a statement.
This is not the first time Bhandarkar is going to be a part of the event. In 2010, a retrospect of his five films including Chandni Bar, Page 3, Corporate, Traffic Signal and Fashion was showcased at the prestigious film fest. Many big names from Hollywood have been associated with the festival like Salma Hayek, Samuel L Jackson, Bruce Willis and Bill Murray.Click here to read more

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar asserts that Kareena Kapoor’s performance in his latest project Heroine is not only fabulous, it will also be a shocker for her fans. “Her character Mahi Arora is very contemporary, very edgy, very hard-hitting and very real like my other cinema. Kareena will definitely be a shock element to the people because of the way she has worked in the film,” the 43-year-old producer-director said here at the launch of photographer Dabboo Ratnani’s calendar. “I am looking at the film because I know the story, I know the screenplay, I know the dialogues. Madhur Bhandarkar’s ambitious project Heroine is back on track with Kareena Kapoor stepping into the shoes of Aishwarya Rai as the lead actor and the filmmaker says the movie will be a landmark one in Bebo’s career. “She (Kareena) is a great star. We have always talked about working together and even discussed a lot of films but nothing materialised. But Heroine is a great script and a great story. I am sure it will be a landmark film in Kareena’s career,” said Bhandarkar at the red carpet of Airtel Super Star Awards. Bhandarkar’s film hit a roadblock after Aishwarya opted out of the project following her pregnancy. Ash gave birth to a baby girl Wednesday.
