Mamata Banerjee: How about a Bollywood movie on her life?
Cineswami has a new passion – the lovely Mamata-di of Poschim Bongo, and he says there should be a film on the politician
You might be wondering, gentle reader, as to why the spectre of politics is disgracing these pages meant to carry graceful accounts of the altogether more noble, if not clean, entertainment industry. Not to worry, Cineswami will provide a connection, however specious it may be. Straight off the bat, if the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Dharmendra, Govinda and Jaya Prada can have political links, certainly Cineswami can. That’s not even looking at highly politicised Tamil Nadu, where every single chief minister since 1967 has either been an actor, actress or screenwriter. And Andhra Pradesh was ruled by the late, great NTR. But, we digress. We must return to the object of Cineswami’s passion, the lovely Mamata-di. The graceful lady swept away more than three decades of communist rule in West Bengal and proved the power of democracy by winning with a brute majority. Click here to read more

SRK agrees to be West Bengal brand ambassador
Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan has formally accepted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s proposal to become the state’s brand ambassador. This was disclosed by Banerjee at the state secretariat Writers’ Buildings on Monday. Sources said Shahrukh’s acceptance came in the form of a letter to the chief minister. Banerjee had put the request to the movie icon during a tete-a-tete after the inauguration of the 17th Kolkata Film Festival last November. Shahrukh had then verbally agreed to the chief minister’s appeal. Amitabh Bachchan is the brand ambassador of Gujarat and now SRK of Poschim Bongo. Wonder which actor will be the next.

The new woman in Yash Chopra’s life
Bollywood’s fave director cannot stop gushing about West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee
Yes, we are referring to the selfsame septuagenarian director who is known as the emperor of Bollywood romance. He can’t stop singing the praises of, hold your breath, West Bengal (or should that be Poschimbongo?) Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. “I have met a lot of people and politicians in my life. But I have never seen someone as dedicated as her,” Chopra said. Chopra gushed further, “Mamataji helped me raise some issues about the film industry with the Prime Minister when I hardly knew her, two years ago. When the railway budget was passed, she ensured special concession for poor people from the film industry.” Click here to read more
