Bollywood filmmaker Subhash Ghai suffered another jolt Tuesday when the Punjab and Haryana High Court quashed the allotment of a plot to him by the Haryana government for setting up a film and acting institute. Ghai was ordered to return the 20-acre land in Badhsa village of Jhajjar district to the village council. Click here to read more
Subhash Ghai asked to pay up Rs 79 crore rent for Whistling Woods
In a huge setback to filmmaker Subhash Ghai, the Maharashtra government has reclaimed 14.5 acres of the land of Whistling Woods International. Moreover, the filmmaker has been asked to pay up rent for the last 12 years, amounting to a whopping Rs 79 crore. The film and media school stands on a 20-acre property in Film City, Goregaon, of which 14.5 acres is now with the government and 5.5 acres shall remain with Whistling Woods. Ghai had gathered film industry folk in order to stop the government from taking over the land, as the school would’ve shut down – leaving the students worried about their future. As a result of the support, the school building will now stand till 2014. After the two-year period, Ghai might have to shift it someplace else or buy out.
