Court stays Subhash Ghai’s Haryana land deal

The Punjab and Haryana High Court Tuesday stayed Bollywood filmmaker Subhash Ghai‘s Mukta Arts from performing any activity on a 20-acre plot purchased from a gram panchayat in Haryana, a lawyer said. Ghai planned to set up a film institute on the land bought in October 2010 in Badhsa village in Jhajjar district, some 25km from Gurgaon. Hearing a plea filed by Nafe Singh and others from the village, Acting Chief Justice MM Kumar ordered status quo on the land and the execution of the sale deed by the gram panchayat. The petitioners’ lawyer Deepak Balyan said, “We told the court that according to the Punjab Village Common Lands (Regulation) Rules, the government could only auction such land.” The petitioners claimed that the land belonged to the village community and the gram panchayat and the state government had no right to sell it to a private firm. The Badhsa Gram Panchayat had sent a resolution to the Haryana government January 6, 2010 to permit them to sell land to Mukta Arts. On September 22, 2010, the government allowed the panchayat to sell 20 acres of land at the rate of Rs 24,09,000 per acre. The deal was sealed October 11, 2010. A court at Bahadurgarh in Jhajjar district earlier dismissed a public suit filed by villagers against Ghai acquiring the land.

LOVE WRINKLE FREE quick movie review: Cute indie film sans gimmicks!

Sandeep Mohan’s directorial venture starring Ash Chandler and Shernaz Patel is an entertaining watch… so far

Script is indeed king. Love Wrinkle Free has had no big promotional activities, big names attached to it or any rural item numbers, but in the end, it still touches you the way few films this year have done. Our reviewer (the same one who had his brains addled last week with Department) caught a show of LWF at a local theatre and couldn’t help but rave to us how much he was enjoying it. He texted us during the interval, “LWF is a cute indie film about a couple going through mid life crisis and their daughter who is dealing with an identity crisis. It’s a slice of life film sans any gimmicks. All main characters are wonderfully cast. The use of music is commendable. Ash Chandler is stellar as the manager of an underwear company. There is a great twist at the end of the first half. So far too good!”Click here to read more
