The two actors were seen at the Mumbai airport on the weekend. While Sonam Kapoor was returning from the Cannes film festival, we wonder if Sridevi and husband Boney Kapoor were getting back from an exotic holiday destination!

Sonam Kapoor is done spreading her charm on the red carpet of the 66^th Cannes International Film Festival. She finally returned home and Ms K who usually flies in style opted for a very thanda look this time around. Settling for an androgynous statement – a biker leather jacket and burnished moccasins – Sonam could have at least made sure she wore a light coloured shirt to complement her dark coloured denims. The only saving grace is the pop of blue which she carries in the form of a bag, but mind you, not in a great way.

While SK was highly okay, English Vinglish actor Sridevi was a notch lower as she chose a disastrous ensemble. Her nude eyes add to her style woes all the more. The bright maroon lip colour is also looking ghastly. And apart from the sexy boots, there’s nothing we would like to pay heed to – not even the way she has matched her navy blue pants with a similar coloured shirt. If you ask us, this seems more like an ‘I am going hunting’ look than a comfortable flight style statement.

BollywoodLife’s second birthday and Jackie Shroff’s 30 years in B-town – we had all the reasons to go ballistic with all that celebration. The actor came to our office in a cream blazer, white shirt and light blue denims. Not parting ways with his sexy black sunglasses for even a brief moment, he made some interesting style confessions. “I’m still the same guy from my chawl days wearing the same boot cut jeans and shirt. Only the labels have changed,” he said.

On being asked what was the one style mantra that every man should follow, he gave us quite a list in which most of the points made absolute sense. A consummate entertainer, he started with emphasising the importance of wearing clean socks. Jaggu dada said in his own mocking tone, “What’s the point of wearing a Gucci and flaunting a Rolex watch, if your socks stink like hell.” The Aurangzeb actor requested all the dudes out there to concentrate a bit on grooming. “Women take so much effort to do their nails and look good; the least we can do is clean ourselves up a bit.”

Sonam Kapoor’s full-skirted Dolce and Gabbana dress floral dress was quite a style delight. The babe kept it simple, hair and make-up wise. A necklace by her mom Sunita Kapoor completed her look. What we found interesting was the photograph in which Freida Pinto and Sonam indulge in a light-hearted photo session as Sonam sits on the ground and her pretty, voluminous dress spreads around her beautifully, like a lotus flower, while Pinto is simply leaning against the mirror, striking one of those model-like poses in her glittery Sanchita Ajjampur gown. Vidya Balan looks respondent in a saree – the shiny potli bag, the blue beaded neckpiece and the sleek hair… everything is spot on. But we give a thumbs down to that nathni. It suited Sonam Kapoor, but is looking very out of place on the already bejewelled Vidya. Too much, no?

Sonam was also spotted in a Shehla Khan creation. While we love the diamond neck piece, we can’t say the same about the lehenga. The pretty floral D & G gets our vote instead!

Just when we were wondering what Vidya ‘the ever vivacious’ Balan will be wearing at the 66th Cannes Film Festival, the 34-year-old star made her stunning presence felt at the red carpet in a gorgeous maroon outfit, much to the photographers’ delight. Just look at her! Isn’t she class personified in an outfit that is a fine blend of classiness and stylishness?

Created by ace designer – need we mention who – Sabyasachi Mukherjee, this maroon and black lehenga with a high neck, fully-covered choli made Vidya look every bit of a royal star. The detailed work on her dupatta and the intricately designed hemline of her lehenga added a touch Indian sophistication to the look.

The moment the Kahaani actor stepped out of a plush car, press photographers at the gala could not stop clicking and Vidya glowed like a true Indian queen in those unstoppable flashlights. The perfect combination of a subtle makeup and designer jewellery only accentuated Vidya’s calm, composed and confident personality. She just oozed that ‘ooh la la’ factor with her kohled eyes and that warm smile.

Vidya has been invited at the Cannes 2013 festival to be a part of the nine-member jury. She will be staying at the prestigious Martinez Hotel throughout the festival. And with a hot star like her around, the dignitaries are definitely going to feel the heat!

B-town is a stylish place to be. Celebs experiment, fall flat on their pretty faces, and rise again only to surprise us with their revamped fashion sense. From A-listers (Priyanka Chopra, Saif Ali Khan, Kajol) to aspiring kiddies (Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan) – fashion is an integral part of every celeb’s life. And while some of these stars put in a great amount of hard work to stand out in the crowd, there are a few who make it seem simply effortless – they sport their Rados and Louboutins with a Zen-like serenity.

Amitabh Bachchan didn’t charge a single penny for the work he did in The Great Gatsby, we are told. He plays a cameo in the film – that of Jewish gangland boss Meyer Wolfsheim – and even though he appears for just a short duration, his style doesn’t go unnoticed. He is not looking his usual self – and that’s the speciality of the statement. The imperious wave of white in his hair, the handlebar moustache and the well-trimmed beard…it all lends Big B’s look a very aristocratic attitude.

The pocket square is in place, the clever play of contrast between the colour of the suit and the shade of the tie has been taken care of. Amitabh is also seen wearing a sophisticated hat in a couple of sequences. We are told that Meyer Wolfsheim was a Jew who acted as mentor to Gatsby, with reports suggesting that he was Gatsby’s friend and business associate who was involved in organised crime and had strong connections to the seedy corners of the underworld.

Now that would require the star to have a sinister touch to his style. And honestly, his snowy white beard and moustache with shades of grey imbues his personality with that Don Corleone-like villainous streak. And adding to that a flavor of retro style are the salt and pepper sideburns.

Deepika Padukone is blessed with a deadly combination of a hot bod and an impossible grace. It is this curious and endearing mix that makes the leggy lass a photographer’s delight. And here’s presenting the Chennai Express babe in her hottest summer shoot ever.

What has amazed us about Shilpa’s transformation from being a ballooning beauty to a bootylicious mommy is that while a certain Bachchan bahu is still trying hard to regain her pre-pregnancy svelte figure, Raj Kundra’s biwi is back to her diva-esque shape already. We thinks her diligent yoga practice and strict fitness schedule coupled with a determination to keep fit has worked in her favour.

So in this shoot you see Mrs Kundra glowing with the new-found zest that can turn any other new-age mom green with envy. We loved the ease with which appears before the camera and the air of confidence she has is certainly commendable. But what has let us down a bit is Shilpa’s boring style. The 40-year-old (unbelievable that number is!) star could not keep her style sensibilities up to the level she is known for. The blue outfit, though neatly crafted, looks drab. Even the yellow top and blue denims with minimal accessories doesn’t quite make Shilpa the head turner we know and love, not in this shoot. We hope that in the days to come Shilpa will up her glam quotient and give us more jhataak cover shoots we can go bonkers about.

Just like everyone else, we are curious to know what style queen Sonam Kapoor will wear at the 66^thCannes International Film Festival. Although the babe is making sure that the mystery clouding the images of her exclusive Cannes couture remains intact, she made sure to crack the door open for us…well…just a bit. She revealed that she will be wearing at least one Indian outfit at the prestigious do. And there are six options from the sunset collection of L’Oreal, of which she might sport two of the looks on the red carpet.

So the makeup and hair are almost decided; let’s see now if Ms K sticks to any of these looks. The Bhaag Milkha Bhaag babe recently shot for L’Oreal and we must say SK carries some of these vibrant shades beautifully. Very model like, very diva-ish, the lady knows her makeup, her style and how she has to present herself in front of the camera.

Our personal favourites: The wing-tip eye liner and the wacky coiled ear cuff make a lethal combo. If she’s planning to wear a very futuristic sort of a gown, this look will just be perfect. The rose pink lipstick, the silvery eye shadow and flower accessories on the hair work only if she’s going to wear a nice, sophisticated saree. The electric blue eye makeup energises us completely. It’s like a flash of colour that sweeps you off your feet. It will look great with a vibrant blue strapless gown. And the dangling gold earrings are jaw-dropping. The paparazzi will go berserk if she settles for something like this.

American singer actor Selena Gomez performed to ‘Come and get it’ – a track from her upcoming solo album – at the Radio Disney Music Awards held on April 27, 2013, in Los Angeles. There was something very filmi and Indian about the dance act – from the way the babe carried herself to the feel of the song. The number ‘Come and get it’ has Indian elements in the background which makes the track all the more intense and interesting and Selena added that much needed tadka to her performance by wearing a jhataak blue ensemble with a shredded skirt and a funky bodice. The babe made sure that like her song, her look had a desi feel too. She sported a shiny Komolika-like bindi on stage (remember the vamp Urvashi Dholakia who was famous for her bejewelled bindis in Kasauti Zindagi Kay?). The babe will sport a Sabyasachi Mukherjee creation, and that doesn’t come as a surprise to us at all. She has definitely lost some kilos but looks like she doesn’t want to take the experimental route or go Western anymore. After the Kismat Konnection style debacle, VB is playing it safe and how!

Vidya even went on to say that she sees herself in a saree even while she’s sleeping, and wethinks Balan is simply being a chicken. If you remember her recent 2013 magazine covers – Vogue, Savvy et al – she’s looking, if not slim, then at least slightly toned. But the Kahaani babe is more excited to watch films at the 66^th Cannes International Film Festival as the jury member than try on fancy red carpet outfits. The movie will be premiered during the event on the French Riviera on May 22. And Ms Patel has proudly declared that since this is such a huge honour for her, she wants to look out-and-out Indian on the red carpet in Cannes. Now if you check back through her style track record, the babe is known for making some disastrous boo-boos, especially when she goes all ethnic. She is known for wearing her saree in a way that provides a more than generous view of her cleavage, her midriff and her shoulders. The chica loves her halters, her bikini bras, her shiny tube tops and her off-shoulder blouses. We have nothing against exposing too much – but if every time she insists on being the femme fatale, then our irritation levels go up a notch.

If you think about it, Ms Patel is not an expert at doing justice to the traditional look. The pure Bharatiya nari statement seems to be like a near-impossible task for the bootylicious babe. Be it a wedding reception or an awards function, her chic meter is incomplete without her slipping pallu showing off her…err…assets.

So even while Manish the ‘iconic’ Malhotra says he will create a pretty black and white outfit with Kashmiri and chikankari work for Ameesha, we can already imagine the lady posing for the French paparazzi in her usual more skin is better avatar, making us go crimson yet again!

Sonam Kapoor has been taking it super easy style-wise these days. In the last two events we spotted her at she was at her casual best, debunking notions that Ms K is only meant for the la-di-da prim and proper couture style.

At the Shootout at Wadala screening she appeared in a short shirt and a skirt, revealing her midriff, parading around the venue in her ethnic sandals. While she was slightly arty-farty at this do, for the Bombay Talkies screening, the babe went super funky. She had chosen a Marc Jacobs cropped pullover and dark blue ankle length pants. Although a pair of leggings could have looked better, welikes that SK has been keeping an impressive balance between comfort and style of late. Well, we have missed the behind-the-scenes action, but that doesn’t stop us from analysing the end result – the final cover. Let’s see who managed to look like a diva and who ended up super thanda…

Chitrangda Singh was seen in a lovely Christian Dior outfit at the launch of the Samsung S4 recently. The petite babe that she is, she carried the Spring 2013 creation with great style and attitude. The fan-like drape extending from the waist down to the ankle looks very unusual. Rooting the visual delight in a fashionable pair of shiny Cinderella-like stilettos is definitely our idea of a good style choice.

We would have gone on and on with the raves…and then we saw the babe make a hash of the tangerine statement at the launch of the new Jai Maharashtra TV channel. Chitrangda performed on stage wearing a bright neon-orange itsy-bitsy blouse and a pleasantly soothing pink navvari styled bottom. While we love the way the saree is modified sexily with a thick gold band at the waistline, the orange blouse is jarring to the eye. It’s like a dish that had great potential to taste delicious, but was ruined by the cook adding the wrong flavour in the tadka. Waist-down she is very Maharashtrian, which is totally apt for the event, but waist-up she looks like a disaster. The colour-blocking technique doesn’t work here and neither does that hideous blouse. Looks like it’s time for Ms Singh to take a teeny-weeny break from this mood-uplifting shade.

The beefy stud looks like a designers’ delight in maroon pants, a stylish blue vest and a pristine white shirt….and those dimples!

John Abraham on the cover of this month’s popular film glossy Filmfare is such a refreshing surprise. No close ups, no high-end designer labels, no aesthetic make up or men in tux, just a cheerful lad bringing his metrosexual side to the fore, leaning against a piano and displaying his signature impish grin.

We like Johnny boy’s gladiator chappals. The man is making sure that along with his cool fashionable side, he also goes slightly Roman and adds that vintage touch.

The stubble complements his overall look. If he was clean-shaven, we would probably have dismissed him as very model-like.  The stubble and the casual ensemble make him look like a laidback bloke who makes style choices that are effortless. The irony is that he looks like the guy-next-door despite those delicious dimples and that amazing bod…. and that’s the beauty of this image.

The white background is classy. The cover is easy on the eye and soothes our senses – we like!

Protective papa Boney Kapoor flipped his lid recently when the press tried to question his daughter Jhanvi Kapoor about her Bollywood aspirations

Boney Kapoor and Sridevi’s daughter Jhanvi Kapoor is all of a sudden in the limelight ‘coz of the way her daddy reacted at a recent event. While the Kapoor family was seen enjoying at the party hosted by Subrata Roy in honour of Sridevi after  she won a Padma Shri for English Vinglish, the behaviour of the media irked all hell out of daddy-o Boney.

We have seen Jhanvi making appearances with her mommy in the best designer clothes and sportingly posing for the paparazzi. Be it a glam event like the Hindustan Times Most Stylish Awards or a high-class fashion do, Jhanvi has displayed her DKNYs and Jimmy Choos with not a trace of hesitation and has also been allowed to do so by her folks.

While some reporters have reached the conclusion that JK is ready to make her presence felt in the glitzy world of Bollywood, the Kapoors deny it vehemently. They say that their li’l bundle of joy has to finish her studies first and then she can show off her acting chops…if she wants to.

But the famous Bollywood producer is furious that the media crossed the line and had the audacity to try and interview his baby. Perhaps the next time around the protective papa can draw a laxman rekha around his cutie-pie so that the paparazzi is restricted to just taking delight in Jhanvi’s cool style statements…

Deepika Padukone has a casual appeal that is difficult to match. She is one of those rare ladies in B-town who will inspire you style-wise even when she’s lazing around in a pair of pyjamas or in itsy-bitsy sleep-shorts (remember her look in Volume kam kar from Housefull 2?). And now we have proof; the poll results say it all – Deepika Padukone is leading the race, while the other chicks are still passing the baton to each other.

Since we take our readers’ opinions very seriously, we asked them who they think can do justice to the current a la mode leg-accentuating leggings that are crowding this fashion conscious world we call Bollywood. And the response we got was tremendous, as if Bollywoodlifers were trying to say, ‘Hello, without doubt it’s Deepika Padukone!’. Topping the list with 66.47 percent votes Deeps had Sonam Kapoor trailing behind her with a 16.47 percent show of hands. Phew! Now that’s a drastic difference.

The 66^th Cannes International Film Festival is almost here, and it’s time to scrutinise red carpet statements and sophisticated soiree styles. Nayi naveli jury member Vidya Balan, we hear, is planning to wear her darling designer Sabyasachi’s creations and Sherlyn, we are sure, is going to resort to one of her teeny-tiny outfits, showing off her surgery sculpted hot bod. But what we really want to know – who’s the one you are going to waste your mouse clicks on or enthusiastically wait to gaze at in the picture pages of the morning newspapers?

Sherlyn is obviously going to be a photographers’ delight in her skimpy clothes, and VB is really not likely to surprise us with anything unusual or take a break from her crisp Kanjeevaram sarees. If she does, we will be glad, but her weight is definitely going to restrict her from crossing over conventional style frontiers.

But what suddenly struck us is that even if VB was all toned and free from excessive fat, we doubt she would have opted for a nicely feminine gown. Remember, she was quite slim during her Parineeta days, but how often did we see her sporting mind-blowing western creations? Nada…!

If you ask us, we are most eagerly waiting to see Sherlyn ‘the spicy’ Chopra’s fashion choices, coz they will certainly shock and yell statements. As for Vidya – an aesthetic Sabya saree and a couple of flattering camera angles should do the trick of making her stand out, since style-wise she couldn’t possibly be more predictable!

Sridevi definitely knows how to keep it cool style-wise in this scorching summer heat. She looks fresh as a daisy and with not a single bead of perspiration on her face. While white is definitely the way to go during the summer, we don’t rule out the fact that the veteran star is always bubbling with charm. And if you have noticed, she has kept the style dos and don’ts in mind – which if you don’t follow in this hot weather, you could look like an oily skillet. She has refrained from pancake make-up, and kept it simple, allowing the outfit to be the frame for her gorgeous face. That pretty li’l necklace is spot on – after all, even though you can possibly go overboard with the accessories when you choose traditional wear, simplicity is always the best option.

White keeps you cool as the proverbial cucumber; it gives you that angelic look and it makes you glow like an illuminating Goddess – all the more reason to opt for this light, mood uplifting shade. And Sri – the actor who’s getting younger with every passing day – has always pulled off white with a great amount of grace. Remember her white ensembles in Chandni? As long as the star keeps glowing and keeps a safe distance from leaden greys and dull sky blues, and continues being a fount of style ideas, she will top our style list.

Leggings are the most comfortable things ever. We understand, if you don’t wear them the right way you could make quite a style boo-boo. Some gals displaying serious panty lines, while a few who happen to wear the wrong kind of a top look kinda off-kilter. So while some of these US school honchos think that leg-hugging pants are not a very cool style statement, especially for kids, we wonder what makes them ban them altogether, particularly if they’re not worn in an indecent manner.

Deepika Padukone makes the best use of the amazing bod she has and is often seen wearing leggings in the most creative way possible. For an airport look, she opts for a long shirt and a rugged pair of boots, and for a launch event she settles for a stylish peplum top. Esha Gupta pairs her leggings with a funky shirt and she’s tucked it in, which again works ‘coz of the tight, crease free waistline of the pants. If your leggings have creases around the waistline, avoid wearing short tops. In fact, take a cue from Neha Dhupia, who’s wearing a Pankaj and Nidhi kaftan-like top along with her well-fitted leggings. Doesn’t she look like a diva?

Some B-town babes are absolutely fascinated with leather-look leggings. The hide design seem to bring out the best in them. Sonam Kapoor, Sonal Chauhan, Sonakshi Sinha, Malaika Arora Khan sport this style with such effortlessness. Peplum tops and long shirts are a great choice, but if you have the moxie to wear those itsy-bitsy tops, do it…and erase those style dos and don’ts from your head. But please, for our sakes and yours, don’t make a faux pas!

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan’s child is on her way to becoming a little fashionista

Move over Suri Cruise, Aaradhya Bachchan is here! The youngest member of the Bachchan household, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan’s daughter is garnering attention for her fashion statements.

The little girl was seen last night at the Mumbai airport in leopard print pants (already!) and baby Uggs. How cute is that! She sported a pink jacket and a matching hairclip.

Judging from all her public appearances so far, we can safely say that Aaradhya will most likely spend her childhood being a girlie girl in li’l frocks, pins and hairbands, funky bracelets, pretty shoes, bags, hats and maybe even a fashionable pink high-end handphone.

When she was littler child, we saw her in adorable baby frocks and flowery headbands that are almost a trademark now. She’s also gone ethnic in a red and gold traditional outfit. When she is travelling though, Aaradhya is most often in pink and white tights and tees or comfy frocks, holding firmly on to her momma as she rides in her baby sling in Ash’s arms.

We sure would’ve liked to see her in her baby car seat – like the one Aamir Khan’s son Azad Rao Khan was seated in, remember? But now that Aaradhya is a Big Girl, we’re waiting to see what her personal style will develop into. After all, little kids also exercise their choice.

While Ameesha Patel was seen in a vibrant yellow-red combination at the glamorous do, Neha Dhupia sported a gorgeous black saree embellished with pretty embroidery along the hem. It’s a Nupur Kanoi saree and the high-necked blouse  lends Neha’s personality a touch of ultra-sophistication. Ameesha Patel, on the other hand is overly traditional – she’s taken care of everything, from those ethnic drop earrings to the white and red bangles. And that intricate ring is a cool traditional surprise.

Our only gripe – why does Ms Patel have to sport itsy-bitsy clothes all the time? The halter blouse is such a let down. Or wait, maybe it’s not; it’s just that we are so tired of seeing the babe in skimpy outfits. Her love for revealing restricts the whole idea of creating a nice li’l statement to just a matter of skin show. While we love her traditional look, it would have had been a lot better if she had opted for a three-quarter-sleeved blouse or something that could have completed her pure traditional style. We would love to see her try something different.

Dhupia looks like perfect Bong material with that coal-black bindi. She gets it super right, creating the perfect mix of a designer-ish statement and that special Bengali tadka. Neha for us is the khoob bhalo style icon, hands down!

Her look at a recent event may have been funky-interesting, but did it work? We certainly did not think so!

Isha Sharvani is a pretty girl. She is slim, has nice features and wears her clothes well…we think so, anyway. Even in the various rather OTT costumes she has had to wear on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5, for instance, she managed to display a certain elegance and grace. Of course, all those years of dance training have imbued those qualities in her since the day she learned to walk, wethinks. But at a recent appearance at a fashion event, she left onlookers – us included – rather stunned. Funky is fine, but this went rather beyond that brief, no?

At James Ferreira’s jewellery launch recently, Isha made an astonishing picture. Dressed in a long leopard-print column frock, her slender shape was in great form. Our eyes travelled up along those slim hips, that flat tummy, those toned arms, those pretty shoulders and then stopped….not knowing where to focus. The hair threw us for a gigantic loop – it was long, obviously extensions, dark, obviously coloured and braided. All very well. But then every other strand, each second braid, was coloured a dreadfully fake platinum blonde. Yes, well, we discovered that it was part of her new look for a performance, but it left our sensibilities a trifle bruised and our minds more than a little blank. All we could think of saying was a bewildered ‘Eh?’.

Mallika Sherawat is on a picture posting spree these days. And the kind of photos she has been uploading is in absolute contrast to her look in her next film, Dirty Politics. Although her Twitter handle never fails to give us the uncontrollable giggles (@MallikaLA), these images managed to stun us into sober silence and impress us greatly. They are very aesthetically shot. As she poses in a sexy corset and printed stockings, her expression is superbly captured. Holding on to her garter, Mal’s giving us this contemplative look and those kohl-rimmed eyes speak volumes about her state of mind.
