‘Bigg Boss 5’ to kickstart tonight after unveiling the 14 contestants on Sunday

After unveiling the 14 contestants of this season on Sunday, COLORS’ most popular flagship reality show, Bigg Boss 5, is all set to kickstart tonight with the dashing duo of Salman ‘Dabangg’ Khan and close buddy Sanjay ‘Munnabhai’ Dutt as hosts. Known for their great camaraderie and sense of humour, these two original ‘brats of Bollywood’ will ensure they double the decibels and boldness level in the house while giving the contestants a dose of ‘Double Waatt’.

Though, the previous seasons saw a healthy balance between male and female participants, this season, it’s different. There’s plenty of bird watching opportunity for the men, but for the female viewers, there’s no eye candy. The only male – Shakti Kapoor, is over 50. In 2005, he was stuck in controversy after a news channel aired tapes shot with hidden camera showing the actor seeking sexual favours from a journalist disguised as a Bollywood aspirant.

The women contestants are an eclectic mix of controversial models, actresses, a wrestler, as well as a proud transgender. The participants include – model Shraddha Sharma, who grabbed headlines for her relationship with former Bigg Boss contestant Raja Chaudhary; former Miss Afghanistan Vida Samadzai, who was banned in the country for wearing a bikini; Nihita Biswas, wife of “Bikini Killer” Charles Sobhraj; actress-singer Raageshwari, who has bounced back to arc lights after battling serious health problems. Other contestants include actresses VJ Pooja Missra, Pooja Bedi, Juhi Parmar, model-actress and winner of Miss India International 2003 Shonali Nagrani, popular host Mandeep Bevli, and Rajasthani folk dancer Gulabo Sapera. Actress Mahek Chahal, who is said to be a close friend of Salman, has also joined the list. Also, as we had the great Khali to add muscle power to the last season of the show, this year we have woman wrestler Sonika Kaliraman. Sonika who is now six months pregnant, was earlier seen in“Khatron Ke Khiladi.”

Also on the show will be transgender activist Laxmi Narayan Tripathi. In the past seasons also cross dressers like Bobby Darling, designer Rohit Verma and Pakistani cross-designer Begum Nawazish Ali have made an appearance. Tripathi, who is one of the country’s most visible LGBT community representative, hopes to make a difference in the mindsets of the general public about people of her kind.

Also the Bigg Boss House has also changed this year. It is now more compact than the previous one, leaving no scope for contestants to have any personal space or time. From being a sanctuary, the house will now be a cage with contestants gnawing at each other’s nerves. This means not just more drama and more clashes, but testing the patience of the 14 contestants dying to breathe and let loose. The Bigg Boss House this season is moving from the busy markets of Lonavala to the lush plains of Karjat, where the contestants will be even more isolated than before. With all this and more, the season is geared up for a double whammy with the two hosts ready to explode anytime unexpected.

Bigg Boss fans will see contestants break away from the usual antics as they outdo the other, mean gets meaner while loud gets louder to win the cash prize of Rs 1 Crore.

So don’t forget to catch the Bigg Boss 5 today at 10:30 PM on Colors.
