The television hero, who has been seen in strong, silent and brooding roles in Geet and Punar Vivaah has been displaying an unexpected facet of his personality
He started life on television with an iconic role, that of Lord Ram in Ramayan, with his (to be) wife Debina Bonnerjee by his side, playing Sita. And then Gurmeet Choudhary graduated to more contemporary and real life characters, like Maan from Geet Hui Sabse Parayi and Yash in Punar Vivaah. In both shows he was a good guy, tough, hard, silent, brooding and tormented by his own demons. But he was softened by love – as tends to happen – and was not touched by anything too dark and dire.
But onstage it is a whole different story. Gurmeet has become one of the leading lights of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5, the dance reality show now on Colors, and has impressed the judges with his act in each episode. He started out with a “very sexy” performance, that had judge Karan Johar blushing as he realized that Gurmeet’s wife Debina was listening to all his comments, then came up with a robotic dance that wowed everyone and, in the most recent episode, outshone his choreographer Shampa with his incredibly black and evil side…all with his hands bound!
Can he keep this up long enough to win the competition? Perhaps, since he is now one of the frontrunners, along with Shibani Dandekar and Isha Sharvani. Gurmeet has the judges excited and the audience cheering for him. There is fire in this hero’s belly, and a lot of it is wicked!
