Satyamev Jayate: Aamir Khan refuses to apologise to doctors

The actor maintains that he has not insulted the medical profession

Actor Aamir Khan is in no mood to apologise to the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and medical bodies such as Medscape India. Some doctors were miffed with the actor for showcasing a one-sided view of the medical profession on his TV show Satyamev Jayate – the fourth episode of the Sunday morning show covered medical malpractice. The doctors demanded an apology from the actor, seeking help from these associations to write to Aamir.

However, Aamir feels he has not insulted anybody. He said to a TV channel, “I will not apologise to the doctors. I have not insulted the medical profession. Those doctors who indulge in unethical practices have defamed the profession, not me.”

Dr Kishor Taori, president of the Maharashtra Medical Council that is associated with Medscape, had said, “Where is Aamir Khan when doctors are assaulted? Where is he when we give free treatment to the needy?” Dr DR Rai, Honorary Secretary, IMA told the channel, “”The way it was anchored by Aamir Khan, the show was sensationalised. They have given a one-sided story by defaming the doctors. The way things were put forward for the public is objectionable to us.”

Do you think Aamir Khan should apologise to doctors for the Satyamev Jayate episode?

Aamir need not to apologise to doctors. Helping the needy is their work to do and for that they dont need to get recognised. Its their work, which is to be done. And aamir had clearly mentioned in episode that not all the doctors are money launders, there are even some doctors who take their work very seriously. Aamir, you need not to worry. You are right by refusing to apologise. Am with you. Please dont step back!!

I don’t think that the doctors deserve apology. There are many doctors who are true to their profession and such doctors deserve praise, but there are many who do unethical procedures without a thought to how many lives are affected. I hope a malpractice list is created by government of the doctors and government brings such doctors to justice. It is a unregulated field specially in a country like India. Money is important , but where doctors are only interested in money and patients are encouraged to do procedures that are not needed ,lives are destroyed.

I totally agree with Aamir Khan. I come from a healthcare background & since for the last 7 years i daily come across patients who often tell me about the expensive medications these doctors keep prescribing , although they arent showing any beneficial effects on them. Rather they keep complaining of various forms of discomfort for which i direct them back to their concerned doctors as drug prescription doesnt fall into my domain. But irrespective of repeated notification of these discomforts , same medicines are rewritten several times. Is it a part of their clinical drug trials???
I always wondered how can i place a permanent full stop to this cheap act. As being a very small member of healthcare system could not voice my opinion..
When a patient couldnt afford buying daily meal, even such patients were placed on costly medicine. i wonder hw do these people have courage to commit such a worst sin when God has given them the opportunity to lead the journey of this noble profession.

I hope GOD/ any sort system helps them towards right path( watever may be the percent of GOOD /BAD doctors) Best is start scrutinizing these small bunch bad doctors and take action against them.. if the rotten apples are removed from basket, rest all will be in good state… isnt it?

Amer is no need to apologize to the doctors. Help those in need is to work to do and it does not need to get recognized. In their work, which should be done. And Amer was clearly stated in the episode that not all doctors wash the money, but there are some doctors who take their work seriously. Amer, do not need to worry. You’re right by refusing to apologize. I’m with you. Please

What makes the doctors say that Aamir Khan has just shown the one-sided story..Haven’t they watched the episode till end…or is it that they switched it off in between coz they couldn’t bear the insult. And if they have seen the episode till the end, then they must have also watched Dr Sharma and Dr Shetty…who are again doctors and are doing for the betterment of the society. If the show would have been one-sided then all doctors should have been abused…The doctors who are asking for apology reminds me of a hindi saying “chor ki daadi mein tinka” :D
