Farah Khan, the cheesily funny director, put her script through some serious alterations before finally settling on the famous Om Shanti Om
Farah Khan is one helluva director with oodles of enthusiasm. Check out her work in the decade’s cheesiest filmy movie Om Shanti Om on YouTube Boxoffice. But dreaming of a movie where Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Raveena Tandon, Amitabh Bachchan, Manisha Koirala (really??), Sanjay Dutt, Zayed Khan and Priyanka Chopra would come under the roof of the same set was a bit too ambitious. To top it, she wanted to schedule it for New Year’s Eve and call it Happy New Year. So it was not surprising that her wings were clipped by the constant bane of any director – date issues. So Farah finally ended up making a movie with only one big star – Shahrukh Khan – and relatively not-so-big stars in the other roles: Deepika Padukone, Kirron Kher, Shreyas Talpade and Arjun Rampal. She roped in her favourite bigger stars for cameos in the song Deewangi. She named her movie Om Shanti Om, almost as if she was trying to make peace with her ambitions. Stay calm dear Farah. You will get your dream cast one day.
