Karan Kundrra and Zareen Khan's 1921 had a decent buzz before its release and looks like this has translated into remarkable numbers at the box office too. After a slow start, the horror movie saw an upward trend over the first weekend to end it on a high. After decent collections over the first two days, the film added another Rs 2.80 crore on day 3 (first Sunday) to take its overall box office tally to Rs 6.45 crore. Talking about the detailed box office collection, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#1921Movie Fri Rs 1.56 crore, Sat Rs 2.09 crore, Sun Rs 2.80 crore. Total: Rs 6.45 crore. India biz."
While 1921 is decent, the critics and audience weren't too impressed. We saw extreme reactions by the audience for this movie, but majorly everyone called it average. Koimoi, in their review, mentioned, "If you plan to watch this movie keeping in mind 1920, a disclaimer for you this is nowhere near to Vikram Bhatt’s first and best film of this franchise." Times Now also wrote, "With such lavish infidelity to sense can one process all of 1921: the monstrous masterpiece of foggy lighting, cringy VFX and biblical references that it is." But even with sub par reviews and lacklustre word of mouth publicity, 1921 has performed decently. In fact, 1921 released alongside Saif Ali Khan's Kaalakaandi and Anurag Kashyap's Mukkabaaz and it has still managed a decent amount of money. Made on a budget of Rs 15 crore (Cost of production + cost of print and advertising), 1921 will surely make its money. It should make Rs 15 - 17 crore in its lifetime run.
