Akshay Kumar's Mission Mangal, which has taken a flying start at the box office is eyeing a huge opening day at the box office. In fact, if we look at the occupancy and advance booking reports, it is all set to become the second biggest opener of the year after Salman Khan's Bharat. The film is all set to beat all biggies like Uri: The Surgical Strike, Kabir Singh, Gully Boy, Total Dhamaal and others. As we told you earlier, the film is set to cross the Rs 30 crore on its first day and if footfalls increases in evening and night shows, it might register around Rs 35 crore as well.
Akshay earlier spilled the beans on how Mission Mangal happened and said, It just happened, he sketched out the story to me as I was leaving for a shoot of Kesari. I was bowled over but wondered how he would make it. We don’t make science films and this one was about a space mission. But I liked it enough to tell him, “We’ll make it.” He began writing it with (R) Balki sir. Then, Vidya (Balan), Sonakshi (Sinha), Taapsee (Pannu) and others came on board and we wrapped up the film in 32 days. When a film finishes without issues and negativity, it’s good karma."
Our critic, Urmimala Banerjee praised the film and performances and wrote, "Mission Mangal's prime strength lies in the crisp narrative and superlative performances. Vidya Balan is absolutely brilliant throughout the film whether she is talking of a power beyond science or when she tells her husband that as a mom she is equally clued in as she is as a scientist. Akshay Kumar delivers the good and has the best one-liners. Dalip Tahil as the cynical top boss is terrific. Sonakshi Sinha nails her role as the ambitious Eka Gandhi. She is fab. Kirti Kulhari and Nithya Menen are in top form as well."
