The film continues to perform well at the box office...
2016 has been a great year for films. Not only have many Bollywood movies made money, many have broken records too. Akshay Kumar's Rustom was also one of the biggest and most awaited films of the year and it has also achieved a few feats in its first weekend. In fact, the film has collected Rs 90.90 crore in 7 days and now is the second HIGHEST first week grosser of 2016! Ain't that cool?
As trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed through his tweet, "Highest WEEK 1 - 2016: 1. #Sultan 229.16 cr [9 days], 2. #Rustom 90.90 cr, 3. #Airlift 83.50 cr, 4. #HF3 80.10 cr, 5. #Fan 71.50 cr, 6. #Baaghi 59.72 cr, 7. #Dishoom 53.34 cr, 8. #MohenjoDaro 51.18 cr, 9. #UdtaPunjab 48.50 cr, 10. #KapoorAndSons 46.93 cr, 11. #KiAndKa 37.57 cr, 12. #Neerja 35.32 cr. Note: HINDI FILMS. Nett biz. India biz."
Rustom has beaten Akshay's earlier releases - Airlift and Housefull 3, along with Shah Rukh Khan's Fan, Tiger Shroff-Shraddha Kapoor's Baaghi and Varun Dhawan-John Abraham's Dishoom. However, it couldn't come anywhere close to Salman Khan's Sultan. The buzz that Sultan had, was tremendous and it has dominated the box office completely this year till now. Sultan holds the record of the highest first weekend and highest first week collections amongst many others! And we don't think any of them will be broken anytime soon. However, one Sultan record that Rustom was able to beat was the first Monday collection of the film.
Akshay Kumar's Rustom has managed all of this despite strong opposition from Hrithik Roshan's Mohenjo Daro. Though Rustom had lesser screens, it still performed very well and will mostly cross the Rs 100 crore mark by end of today!
