The live-action movie Aladdin which released on Friday was a blast of nostalgia for fans all over the world. Even in India, the 90's kids who grew up with the legend of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp and TV shows like I Dream of Genie couldn't help but run to the threatres to catch the most-loved children's fantasy drama Aladdin. And while other movies like Arjun Kapoor's India's Most Wanted and Vivek Oberoi's PM Narendra Modi clashed with the Will Smith-starrer, families with their kids who are on their summer vacations from school, naturally chose the Genie over a terrorist hunt or a biopic of the most powerful PM in recent times.
The film, which features Mena Massoud as Aladdin, the street rat, Naomi Scott as princess Jasmine and Marwan Kenzaria as the scheming Jaffar, remains the 1st choice for families on day 3, collecting Rs 22.03cr GBOC (18.5cr NBOC). The movie collected 9.23cr GBOC (7.75cr NBOC) on Sunday alone which was the third day of screening in India for the film. This is a huge rise from the Rs 5.06cr GBOC on day 1 with Rs 4.25cr NBOC.
Meanwhile, in the Hindi version of the movie, Bollywood musician Armaan Malik has dubbed for Aladdin's character. The singer has also recreated a song for the film which is the Hindi version of Aladdin’s famous song, A Whole New World. The song is titled Naya Jahaan.
Also, Aladdin's competitors in India, India's Most Wanted and PM Narendra Modi raked in a total of Rs 8.66 cr and Rs. 11.76 cr respectively. Last week's movie, De De Pyaar De starring Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Rakul Preet Singh has collected a total of Rs. 38.54 cr till now. While India's Most Wanted revolves around the capture of the terrorist who was behind the 2010 blasts in Pune, PM Narendra Modi is a biopic on the politician's rise to power from his chaiwala days. De De Pyaar De on the other hand is a comedy where a 50 something year old man falls in love with a 20 something year old and his hilarious fight between his separated wife Tabu and new lady love Rakul.
